I have a feeling that if "Akon" acted on his own advice, he'd be begging to get his US passport back after a week in the paradise of malaria and dysentery-ridden Mother Africa.
I don't feel like wading through 163 posts (current count) to see if someone beat me, but Out Of America: A Black Man Confronts Africa is an excellent book about what one black man found when he looked for his roots there.
Why, Egypt of course! Don't you know that the ancestors of black Americans built the pyramids?
consensus...
sorry
Your mouth ... Gods ear
No; worked their way up. Came here to attend American universities; stayed and became professionals and citizens, got married; searched their own grapevine for a nanny for the kids and found a lovely older woman whose grown son already lives in America. She recently became a citizen, also, after working here 5 years.
Akon was born in St. Louis, and spent much of his childhood in the West African country Senegal, which he describes as his "hometown".
Bonus:
Akon has stated in interviews that his full name is Aliaune Damala Akon Thiam and that as a Muslim, he has never drunk alcohol or smoked.

Is that a threat or a promise?
What he really means is “I want to move to a rich place that is all black”. A Beverly Hills that is nothing but black people.
Finally! An Idea I can heartily endorse!
If there are guarantees I’ll donate to the project! A lot!
Heck, I’d even dollar match!
There would be a bigger line seeking free chastity belts.
Good riddance, Akon! Make sure the door doesn’t hit you in your lib ass on the way out.
You don't have to be either white or racist to be sick of the bad attitudes and criminality among the professional entitlement/grievance crowd.
Funny, a white person can see a news story about a convicted white criminal and not feel any need whatsoever to identify or sympathize with that person. But let a black person be arrested in commission of a crime, with witnesses of both colors, and suddenly Al Sharpton appears with a fresh new spew of DoubleSpeak and you get an automatic 97% victimhood response from duh commoonity. I think most people on this thread are just fed up with the complaining.
My grandparents could barely read, never finished third grade and were faced with "No Irish Need Apply" signs when looking for work. My parents finished high school. I was the first college graduate in the family. My kid is getting the doctorate. This is the American Dream, without any paid health care or free stuff. But it takes work, and not too much smoldering resentment to do it.
Akon, dude, they don’t have electricity there an if they did and all of you had houses the world would boil over. Another problem is Africa does not have a lot of autotune devices sitting around.
This guy is truly intelligent. Hellloooo! Africa!
Akon, your dream has already been dreamed and realized. Just book the next flight to Monrovia.
Short on car fare? Let me help you to buy those one way tickets.
There is also lots and lots of land East of the coast in Angola. It is great land. Used to be called the breadbasket of Europe when the Portuguese farmed it.
So much of this stuff is just provocation, though. Some idiot somewhere says something foolish and forgettable -- maybe it's just an unknown blogger somewhere or maybe it's a minor rapper -- and people decide to get really indignant about it, invest it with more importance than it deserves, and say foolish things in response.
People say stupid things. That's the way the world is. It's not always some kind of call to arms. Try not to get worked up -- or provoke other people -- with every passing stupid thing that you see on the Internet.
Shhhhh!
Only good vibes man. Africa is a wonderful place. I know, I’ve done some extensive tours working there as well.
