Here in the US, Obama hates the idea of the Keystone Pipeline, while crude is shipped instead on Buffett’s trains. Are trains safer than pipelines, or is this event in Quebec a freak accident?
Q: Why are there so many train derailments and accidents lately?
But Hey!! Buffets trains are so much safer than a pipeline.
The problem here is that the train goes through right in the middle of the city, which is a total nonsense.
Lac-Mégantic, Canada rang a bell. Then I recalled that General B. Arnold marched his invasion force through there on Oct 19, 1775 on his way to invade Quebec. The invasion and subsequent Battle of Valcour Island ultimately slowed the British attempt to severe the colonies, led to the British defeat at Saratoga, and shifted the war to the south.
Train tracks, especially in rural areas, more often than not, go through towns and villages. I'm somewhat familiar with the Lac-Megantic area of Quebec and it's rural. Closest thing to a city in the immediate area is probably Sherbrook.
Prayers up for distant relatives in that area.
There are thousands of train accidents of one sort or another every year. Fortunately, most don’t get ore than a little local attention.
Here’s access to the numbers:

Derailing a train isn’t that hard.I won’t mention any ways to do it.
Getting at a buried pipeline a little but harder.
Prolly some of those Frenchy revolutionaries involved, or maybe some north african commies that seem to live in the area.
The cities are there because the railroads brought transportation to the area. Transportation brought the population. Population begot cities. Please read one of the many books on the settling of the US West. The same goes for the vast areas of Canada. There’s not one town in the West that does or did have a railroad running through it.
Trains are so much more safe and efficient for transporting liquid products in bulk. Of course we all know John D. Rockefeller was just an idiot for building pipelines. /sarc
I’m sorry people have been hurt and very sad some may have been killed but accidents like this are the only way the sheeple and the damn fools in obastard’s gang will ever learn... then the obastard gang will not learn probably.
Hauling crude oil in trains is a bad idea.
Hauling crude oil in trains is just another payoff from politicians to their supporters. A big payoff to Warren Buffet, a man who has more money than Croesus. More money than he can ever spend. It is blood money just like the diamond money was in Angola.
Amerika is corrupt and rotten to the core.
These disasters will be a thing of the past once we go to 100% wind/solar power. /sarc
I’m on the road and radio reports sound awful. Reports are that this entire little town has been devastated. Train exploded right in the center of town.
Canada Ping!
In most cases the towns were built around the tracks, often as the site of a refuelling station.
