As long as the senators questioning have proof that he is lying under oath, then no point, because he will lie no matter what. They shouldn’t ask the questions unless they already know the answers and can prove he is lying.
No one had to tell him because he ordered it all and already knew so I guess there is some truth that no one actually told him about things that they knew that he already knew.

Personally I favor the first of these since almost everything we are hearing about our (Nominal) President Obama’s total lack of personal knowledge about any of the current scandals can be completely explained if you simply assume that Valerie Jerrett is functioning as the de facto President of the United Ststes.
