The ACS is conducted under the authority of Title 13, United States Code (U.S.C.), Sections 141 and 193, and response is required by law. According to Section 221, persons who do not respond shall be fined not more than $100. Title 18 U.S.C. Section 3571 and Section 3559, in effect amend Title 13 U.S.C. Section 221 by changing the fine for anyone over 18 years old who refuses or willfully neglects to complete the questionnaire or answer questions posed by census takers from a fine of not more than $100 to not more than $5,000.

Typically they won’t fine you or they’d be in court left and right and cause it an uproar. I am not saying he would be fined, I am saying those who spout the ‘I only have to the number of people in my house’ are speaking out the wazoo.

Answering a question of a legal nature while ingoring the primary controlling law in the Constitution. Yielding ground to unlawful authority to those in a government agency following rules and regulations, or a ‘law’ passed by legislators which is nullified by the controlling authority of the Constitution. So as you can see it is skin off of the nose of your rights by allowing them to go beyond the law of the land. If they wish to collect information they must first alter the Constitution. Hence, by allowing them to violate the rule of law by complying with unenforceable edicts you are aiding in the efforts of the few to erode the foundation of our Republic. Much as the citizens of Watertown did when they allowed searches of their premises without warrant. That of course is a different issue and mentioned as it might be those citizens are ignorant of the controlling amendments in the Bill of Rights.
My remarks should not be taken as an aggressive response to your comment They are not. You may do as you please. But bear in mind, when they come to my door, your compliance has given them the impression they have the authority to do what they choose without question and that undermines my response to their actons.

Fine, you’re not a troll - I sincerely apologize.
However, why is it that you seem so intent on obeying “the law” when “the law” is subservient to the Constitution. Do you not understand that legislatures (including Congress) routinely pass bills that are signed into “law” - which “laws” are then ruled contrary to the Constitution.
Would you obey a law that said that you couldn’t serve a black person in a public restaurant, or let them sit anywhere on a bus/train/plane that they wanted to sit? I should hope not, not just because it’d be thoroughly indecent, but because the Constitution’s Equal Protection clause would forbid it.
Please do yourself and others a favor and THINK a bit before spouting off. I didn’t, so here I am apologizing for it.

I was asking for when Congress mandated that we must answer intrusive, unconstitutional questions—not that I would ever comply, of course. I don’t seem to remember any legislation specifically dedicated to that monstrous “American Community Survey,” other than hearing the feds just “say” we have to answer it. Bullcrap.
Regardless, the federal government has no authority given to it in the Constitution for collecting such detailed, intrusive information about us.
You go ahead and comply if you wish. We will never comply.
Oh, my mom got one of those forms. I don’t think it was the community survey as it wasn’t that long. I was all set to contact our congresscritter but she found in the fine print that completing it was voluntary.
