This title is repulsive, It is wrong to degrade short farm workers.
There are only some 30 or 40 million illegals in this country. Maybe we should start rounding them up and giving them a choice.
Last summer we had to give legitimate “migrant” workers welfare because of the drought. This year the fruit growers say they need more because they can’t get the migrants from last year to come back.
Just pay a little more, contact the unemployment offices and bus out the poor from the cities
I think we should round them up also and also to give those assignments to the people who have been on unemployment for longer than 8 weeks. Why should we pay them for 99 weeks to sit at home when there is plenty of work out there?
Prison inmates would work just fine too.
Something is wrong here, we have increasing unemployment while at the same time we have increasing lack of farmworkers.
I know a strawberry farmer, he also gives them a place to live when they work for him. This could even help for the homeless..
My brother-in-law is in construction. He is a feisty conservative, hired only citizens UNTIL he totally got fed up with the low-life, lazy laborers he was getting. Started hiring immigrants because they worked hard and had a good work ethic. I don’t think I’d hire urban welfare folks to work my orchards.
your brother-in-law is a huge part of the immigration problem.
It takes a certain kind of person to do that work. I did farmwork as a teenager but I’d end up dead in the field if I tried it today.
If you intend to employ adults with families and homes, you’re going to have to pay far more than welfare or unemployment.
We’ve always had a sizable migrant labor force on the farms but they are evaporating as it becomes ever easier for them to collect benefits.
I drive by a lot of construction in my neighborhood all the time, you are correct about the migrant workers... I don’t think I remember seeing anything but Hispanics.
It is truly a shame of the entitlement that the Americans think they are entitled to. Sickens me for sure...
maybe he should try hiring some Americans
Insert excuse here.
A while back was a consultant on a large CA commercial construction project. There were crews working that spoke six different languages. Generally only the super spoke English, and he not too well.
Not surprising they had the problems I was there to address. It was a regular Tower of Babel.
Got a match?
Guess you’re just fine with the entitlement employers though.
How can it be easier for them to collect benefits?
