The caller had it right. This is where Rush and Hannity and most of the conservative talking heads are hampered, though. If Rush ever said “call the RNC and tell them if they don’t listen to their base we’ll leave”, it would happen. We’d have a third, conservative party overnight.
But that’s not how they’re wired. They’re about electing the “R” too, which is why Rush’s comment I quoted is more than a bit ironic. It seems like he’s complaining about no progress being made for conservatism within the GOP-E but he makes no call for systemic change. He’s got a bully pulpit of 20,000,000 listeners. If he doesn’t use them, who will?
The Bible says that God has made the First Covenant old - it is decayed and vanishing away (Heb 8:13). Jesus is the mediator of the New Covenant "which was established upon better promises" (Heb 8:6).
The First Covenant "had ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary" (Heb 9:1) "in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did service perfect" (v.9). This stuff has all disappeared and has been replaced by the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
The first covenant is old, decayed, and gone. We are now under the new covenant becasue Jesus "NOW has obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he IS the mediator of a better covenant" (Heb 8:6).
Wills contain covenants. A new will revokes an old will. The covenants (promises) in an old will are superseded by the covenants (promises) in the new will. Jesus' will to us is the New Testament containing the new covenant of promise, "that by means of death...that they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance" (Heb 9:15). We are now no longer under the old covenant of earthly high priests and tabernacles, but under the new covenant of Christ, our high priest and heavenly tabernacle.
That is a Millennial passage, when all of Israel, who survive the Tribulation will be saved.
In the Millennium, God will be known and there will be no reason to teach about Him.
Chapter 9 deals with the NT, which is the shedding of Blood and is why the New Covenant is possible.
The Old Covenant that is done away is the Mosaic Law, which the Jew was unable to keep.
So the Law becomes a curse for us.
If the law were not present our actions would not condemn us, but the law shows we are sinners.
'for without the law sin was dead. For I was alive without the law once, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died. And the commandment which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death. For sin taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me and by it slew me. Wherefore, the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good' (Ro.7:8b-12)
Nothing wrong with the Law, we just can't keep it.
Disobedience demands death, hence the curse of the Law. The Law shows our sin and we cannot keep the law. If you think you can, you are deceiving yourself.
The Law was lead one to grace, not to attempt to try to keep the Law.
A Covenant is not a Testament, it is an agreement or a promise.
No, as I said, one contains the other. A will ("testament") contains promises ("covenants"). A new will with its promises and devises revokes the old will and its promises.
The new testament with its new covenant ("better promises" (Heb 8:6)) has replaced and revoked the old testament and its promises. In your scenario, the old covenant has been revoked with nothing. It doesn't work like that with God or man. God has revoked the old covenant by bringing in a better (new) covenant. "In that he says, a new covenant, he has made the first old" (Heb 8:13).
You are minimizing the impact of the cross on this Easter Sunday. Jesus' perfect sacrifice on the cross changed EVERYTHING. We are no longer under the law of the old covenant, we are under the grace of the new covenant.
The essence of the new covenant is God promising, "I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more" (Heb. 8:12). That is NOW my friend becasue of the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ by which we receive the gift of righteousness (Rom 5:17) and become the righteousness of God (2 Cor 5:21). He has truly been merciful to our unrighteous and our sins and iniquities he no longer remembers. Otherwise how is it that we are "made the righteousness of God" (2 Cor 5:21) and "as He is, so are we in this world" (1 John 4:17)? Does God see any sin in Jesus? Of course not. Neither does he see any sin in you becasue as He is so are we in this world. That's proof of the efficacy of the new covenant that "our sins and iniquities He no longer remembers."
"It is finished" is a powerful statement by our Lord. The old covenant is finished and we are under the new. Don't let anyone try to tell you that because grace, the new covenant, and the new testament are no the same thing that they are somehow not effective. That's Satan's lie. Grace (unmerited favor) is the essence of the promise of the new covenant contained in the new testament. Jesus' long awaited and perfect sacrifice on the cross put all into effect and ALL THINGS ARE BECOME NEW for those of us in Christ (2 Cor 5:17).
God's word is deep and always multilevel. We are the spiritual Jews who enjoy these promises now. Soon a remnant of Israel in the flesh will also enter into these promises as well. Both spiritual and natural Jews will live in these promises throughout the millennium and forever. Neither excludes the other.
I am probably one of the few regular posters here who has never read Vince Flynn. It’s on my to do list though.
Much good info..but the problem with Rush and others like Hannity is that they are so irritated and focused on the socialists that there is precious little time spent on brightness and conservatism..such as Reagan did. Uplifting stuff. And they are playing right into the left’s hand by also not teaching their listeners to fight, but to fight without anger and irritations which take us away from our strength. Exactly what the communist powers want and have accomplished! There is one talk show host that does teach this and he needs to become bigger, and will. Roy Masters at fhu.com. He is one over 200 stations for like 50 years and is helping this nation a whole lot!
I know this...and many of the leftist are themselves duped and addicted to too much sex. My points were right on and the very reason we are losing our power to fight effectively. We get shocked and upset by what is being done and Rush feeds right into that!..unwittingly.
Short term memory loss? Rush was all over that Chick-fil-a boycott attempt and one could make the argument that it was his coverage that created the lines of supporters for that business......
No, Roy is the most interesting question...how did that man stay so bright! Fabian happens to be my name and I care not that it was also the name of socialists! That is not my fault. And I think that verse in yes, a rock band’s song...is beautiful. We all need to stand long in faith! Fidelity is prime!
Yes, and that is certainly happening. But the fhu is teaching the silent way back to faith...very very effective.
