Who ordered the numerous stand downs is the key question. We had plenty of time to get assets from Sig, a 45 min flight for a fighter and 1 and 3/4 hours for an AC-130. Add an hour, max, for a launch and we still would have been there in less than 3 hours after the start of the attack.

An excellent question and one I’ve been asking since the attack. The survivors could tell us what really happened.
Also, they could tell us who at the consulate and the CIA annex building was in contact with whom in DC and what did the people in DC tell them when they requested help.
I have my doubts we will ever get answers.
