The PRINCIPLE is to maintain and support MARRIAGE as between one man and one woman. THIS (the notion that we should no longer follow the God-given principle of MARRIAGE) is exactly the kind of thing that has weakened the GOP!
We should be doing everything we can to strengthen marriage because it IS the foundation of a healthy society.

Probably more accurately the equivalence is seen between not allowing gay marriage, and the old anti-miscengenation laws.
One thing that is extremely similar between gay marriage and lifting interacial marriage bans is the incredibly rapid flip in public opinion.
