Bad comparison - I’m not going to shoot someone coming for my air bag.
It's not just children but includes adults of short stature that are injured by deploying air bags. I've always wondered what would happen to a guy smoking a pipe?
Then there is the issue of an accidental deployment because of a faulty sensor. If the bag blew in your face as you were driving on the expressway next to a gasoline tanker or a school bus, there would be an accident, no doubt. Do you think a subsequent investigation would find fault with the "active safety equipment" or would it be called "driver error"?
The nasty part of this is we will never know if the system failed or the driver was distracted 'cuz the "black box" will faithfully record that the air bag deployed leaving no clue as to why it did.
Any thing mechanical or electronic, made by man can be expected to fail sometime. Space shuttles, airliners, smoke alarms, TV sets, burglar alarm systems, cell phones, the list is endless. Nothing is 100% reliable except Murphy's Law.
I'd rather drive with a five point racing seat harness and a roll bar.

Actually, the air bag industry WANTED air bags.
Saying the Auto industry didn’t want Air bags would be like saying the Private Security Protection industry doesn’t want their handguns banned.
Anyway, parts of the auto industry loved air bags. It was a discriminator; some would have them, some wouldn’t, and the consumer would be able to choose.
It was the consumers that didn’t want air bags, but the government forced them on us.
Many lives have been saved. Some have died because of the air bags. Under the Biden, rule, since some people are killed by air bags, we should ban them, “if we can save just one life”.
“That’s one more thing that reinforces the perception/fact that you are indeed a buffoon, Joe. “
That’s an affront to all buffoons. Obama is a stupid criminal. Biden is simply stupid. I am sure that somewhere he’s packing a drool cup!
‘Comrades! We have glorious air-bag news! Production increased 30% ... “
No, he has the analogy wrong. A true analogy is this: Gun control would be car control - taking away the car. The airbags are analogous to the gun safety that prevents unintended shootings.
Great post.
