So if we just pour platimum into Fedex Field and fill it up...that will cover the trillion dollar requirement?

How does the gov’t pay for the platinum it would need? Or are they going to use nickle and deem it platinum?

That raises as many questions as it answers. How would arbitrarily assignment of value effect the spot price and how would that devalue other precious metals? How is this any different from printing billions in "digital" money by buying their own bonds? The inflation that is waiting to unleash when the bubble burst is staggering. The dollar is being devalued with every Quantitative Easing scheme and this would be no different. Just a gimmick. All good points. It is a gimmick. Minting the coin out of platinum just gives it a veneer or respectability. They might as well make the coin out of plastic or Play Doh. Assigning it such an absurdly high 'value' is just plain deceitful thinking.

Our debt is so high that the inevitable monetary inflation will make the Weimar Reichsmark seem rock-solid by comparison. Just don’t leave your wheelbarrow outside the store while you go in to purchase food scraps with a ton of worthless notes.
