1. Guns are quintessentially American.
2. We are not that far from the era of the Frontier. I’m 62 and my grandmother was born two years before the end of the Indian Wars and twelve years after Little Bighorn.
My great Grandfather, whom I knew when I was young, was born before the Civil War and came over the year after it ended.
Hey Alan your grandparents came over here and agreed to live under the “constitution” of the USA. The 2nd ammendment is part of it. Get used to it.
Um....he’s stating specifically that the only way the concept of a non-governmental military force works, under the Constitution, is if the population-at-large is privately, properly armed.
What I especially like is that the “take up arms” sentiment is contrary to the view we commonly have of Hamilton as an establishment-minded Federalist.
I got it from Iowahawk. Be sure to give the source if anyone asks you!
Ya. Now that you mention it, it’s interesting.
I recall him also making a couple predictions in the Federalist, that impressed me. One was that the judiciary would eventually collapse under case law and the other was an explanation of what would happen with the Federal military should a civil war break out.
The Civil War played out his military prediction and we’re seeing the collapse of the judiciary.
I have studied that era and its personalities for many years and I continue to be surprised at their relevance today.
