San Diego was a Republican area when I moved here 25 years ago. There were moderates around the city (like Pete Wilson), and conservatives outside the city (like Duncan Hunter). Republicans were governor and Senator. Now it is lost. Texans, please fight to keep this from happening to you, I am hoping to move there and start reclaiming our country from that base.
I agree that we have to fight the idea that illegals get to vote.
No demographic is permanent, though.
CA was lost because of the ‘86 amnesty, IMO. Because of that plus family reunitification we added millions of new citizens, 80% voting democrat.
So Texas had better get a cast iron Voter ID system right now because as sure as hell, the Rats will do everything to stop it or roll it back if they ever get power.
I’m hearing whites will no longer be the majority by 2030. Believable. I have many Hispanic friends, good people, but as a whole will they want to preserve this republic in the spirit of our founding fathers? I think not. Will most of them and other Americans give up government handouts to avoid economic collapse? I think not. Americans, of all origins and skin colors, are in for tough times.

Texas finally passed a voter ID law last year that was approved by the Governor but unfortunately, the Obama/Holder Justice Dept. have put the kibosh on it. I fear the worst.
It is not illegal immigrants, but LEGAL IMMIGRANTS that are changing the demographics of this country and they have been since the implementation of the 1965 Immigration Act,
We bring in 1.2 million LEGAL immigrants a year--87% of whom are minorities as defined by the USG. Many settle in CA.
According to the Bureau of the Census, 27.2% are foreign born; 43.2% of the those over 5 live in a household where other than English is spoken; 38.1% are persons of Hispanic or Latino origin; 13.6% are Asians; and 39.7% are non-Hispanic whites.
If we don't limit LEGAL IMMIGRATION, then the country is lost if it isn't already. CA is the canary in the coal mine. The demographics of CA today will be what the US looks like in 2050.
The U.S. adds one international migrant (net) every 46 seconds. Immigrants account for one in 8 U.S. residents, the highest level in more than 90 years. In 1970 it was one in 21; in 1980 it was one in 16; and in 1990 it was one in 13. In a decade, it will be one in 7, the highest it has been in our history. And by 2050, one in 5 residents of the U.S. will be foreign-born.
Currently, 1.6 million legal and illegal immigrants settle in the country each year; 350,000 immigrants leave each year, resulting in a net immigration of 1.25 million. Since 1970, the U.S. population has increased from 203 million to 310 million, i.e., over 100 million. In the next 40 years, the population will increase by an additional 130 million to 440 million. Three-quarters of the increase in our population since 1970 and the projected increase will be the result of immigration.
The nation’s immigrant population (legal and illegal) reached 40 million in 2010, the highest number in our history. The U.S. immigrant population has doubled since 1990, nearly tripled since 1980, and quadrupled since 1970, when it stood at 9.7 million. Of the 40 million immigrants in the country in 2010, 13.9 million arrived in 2000 or later making it the highest decade of immigration in American history, even though there was a net loss of jobs during the decade. Growth in the immigrant population has primarily been driven by high levels of legal immigration. Roughly three-fourths of immigrants in the country are here legally. With nearly 12 million immigrants, Mexico was by far the top immigrant-sending country, accounting for 29 percent of all immigrants and 29 percent of growth in the immigrant population from 2000 to 2010. The median age of immigrants in 2010 was 41.4 compared to 35.9 for natives.
87 percent of the 1.2 million legal immigrants entering annually are minorities as defined by the U.S. Government and almost all of the illegal aliens are minorities. By 2019 half of the children 18 and under in the U.S. will be classified as minorities and by 2042, half of the residents of this country will be minorities. Generally, immigrants and minorities vote predominantly for the Democrat Party. Hence, Democrats view immigration as a never-ending source of voters that will make them the permanent majority party.
Illegals voting has nothing to do with the demographic switch although they are the cause of it. Unchecked illegal immigration has beget a nation of American born children from the illegals that are now coming into voter age. And it will only get worse.
We live in SD..and Filner was a shoe in because there was so much negativity in the GOP primary. He mostly sat on the sidelines and just waited. He is one ugly human being. Totally pro union..totally pro anything to kill the city, state and country. I have met him..talked with him. He doesn’t have a financial clue...plus he is obnoxious. So here we are..stuck with Filner, Brown and Obama..what could possibly go right?
Voter ID will not prevent the eventual coversion of Texas to a blue state. Legal immigrants can vote and there are more than 30 million now and each year 1.2 million more LEGAL IMMIGRANTS enter this country.
Permanent as long as Republicans do nothing about dead and illegal votes.
Illegal immigration is a problem, but legal immigration is a much bigger one.
We too are looking to move to TX or AZ. We have made trips to AZ house hunting and also TX, Dallas and the Hill Country. Pros and cons with each.
Now is a pretty good time to sell in San Diego. There are a shortage of properties that are free of any repo/short sale strings. My only misgiving about selling is that someone else will start paying higher property taxes on our house and help feed the monster.
I agree with you. I was addressing the illegals voting. Their children are the much bigger issue.
I agree with you that legal immigrants are changing the demographics as well. I read Alien Nation back when it came out in the early 90s, and was appalled that far back. It has only gotten worse. But the shift in California politics that occurred since I have been here is, I believe, directly attributable to the 1986 amnesty, the early 80's SC decision that said that illegals had to be allowed to go to schools, and the motor voter law. Illegals began pouring over the border after 1986. It became easy to claim that you were entitled to amnesty. When Bush got in in 1988, they stopped enforcing employer sanctions, and more came. Then came Clinton and motor voter.
By 1994, it became clear that we had a huge problem. Our moderate Republican governor, Wilson, latched onto the conservative idea of denying benefits to illegals, and the initiative passed overwhelmingly. Even Mexican-Americans supported the idea that illegals should not be given freebies. As it turned out, that was the dying pushback by a dwingling remnant. Had it been allowed to become law, California might still be the great state that it was when I got here. And America might be a lot better off too. Instead, some unelected judges decided, using legislative logic and some bogus arguments, that illegals are entitled to schools, health care, welfare and housing. It was outrageous. And we have been getting buried ever since.
So, legal immigrants have hurt us a lot since 1965. Muzzies in particular have taken advantage of that law to gain a foothold in our cities and our culture. But illegals are a total game changer. There are 20 million of them, and they are a high percentage of the young people.
Demographics are destiny. When Democrats could not win the argument, they changed the demographics. We have to be willing to change the demographics ack, or surrender the country. We can convince Americans that freedom and free markets are best for us. We will never convince mestizos, muzzies and filipinos to vote to uphold America's heritage. They want to destroy it, and then take their piece, like hyenas fighting over a corpse.

That's part and parcel of what I am talking about. There is no birthright citizenship for the children of illegals, and that is a problem that needs to be addressed as well. The 14th Amendment applies to people who are "subject to the jurisdiction of" the US. People don't generally understand what that means.
That said, we who want to enforce immigration laws, deny birthright citizenship to the children of illegals, jail employers and those with fraudulent SSN's, and all the things we need to do to regain our country, are probably such a small percentage that we can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Can we get it? No. But we can take baby steps to regaining control of our own demographic. First is illegal alien voting and gaining control various states so that a protected base remains intact.
