I’m sure she was the butt of many jokes about yodeling.

Commitment is far more important than compatibility, finances, physical appearances or even hot sex Exactly. Being successful at any endeavor takes commitment.

I think about this after 57 years with a most wonderful and valuable person. Congratulations! We have a few to catch up with you, but if we both manage to survive that long we'll make it. No one said it would be easy, but looking back on our life together through thick and thin, is something we are both content with and proud of.

I agree with you - at least they mean something and you can spell them without saying to the other person, “Spell please” when you need to write it down for some reason.

Brave man!
Now I know why I’ve seen you torn to tatters on a few previous threads.

Society has a big interest in limiting divorce, because it bears the massive costs of unmarried women and their children living in or near poverty. Society may have an interest, but Big Government loves them. Big Government would like to import several million more taxpayer dependents. We can't make them fast enough.

26 years here. Not all of them pretty. But you make a commitment with someone you love and you make it work. Agree. 38 years for my wife and I ... some of them stress full, you try to work thru turbulent seas.
Also, I get a break, my wife had a short term tune up marriage before we met ... she's more tolerant as a result.
Lucky me ... ;o)

“Isnt that the American way where 50% of marriages end up in divorce?”
50% of “all” marriages end in divorce. The rate of first marriages is not that high(although higher than it should be) Divorce has been made too easy

I’d make one more exception: infidelity. A one-time mistake may be pardonable, but full-on affair / serial cheating is a NO-NO.
