Alice Cooper - Hello Horray 1973
Hello! Hooray! Let the show begin,
I’ve been ready.
Hello! Hooray! Let the lights grow dim,
I’ve been ready.
Ready as this audience that’s coming here to dream.
Loving every second, ev’ry moment, ev’ry scream,
I’ve been waiting so long to sing my song
And I’ve been waiting so long for this thing to come.
Yeah - I’ve been thinking so long I was the only one.
Roll out! Roll out with your American dream and its recruits,
I’ve been ready.
Roll out! Roll out with your circus freaks and hula hoops,
I’ve been ready.
Ready as this audience that’s coming here to dream.
Loving every second, ev’ry moment, ev’ry scream,
I’ve been waiting so long to sing my song
And I’ve been waiting so long for this thing to come.
Yeah - I’ve been thinking so long I was the only one.
I can stand here strong and thin.
I can laugh when this thing begins.
God, I feel so strong.
I feel so strong.
I’m so strong.
I feel so strong.
So strong.
God, I feel so strong,
I am so strong.
My first bike had one gear. Whether I was going fast or slow, uphill or downhill, that gear did everything. My next bike had three gears: one for level surfaces, one for going uphill, and one for going downhill. My third bike had ten gears, allowing me an even broader range of choices. Even though my last bike had several gears to choose from, I didnt use all of them every time I rode. Some were best suited for starting and climbing, others were reserved for gaining speed, and others were best for a leisurely pace. But the thing about gears is this: Even though I wasnt using all of them at the time, it didnt mean I would never need them.
The same can be true in regard to our spiritual gifts and abilities. During times when I feel I am not being used to do certain things I once did, instead of feeling useless and unappreciated I thank God for the gear Im currently able to use. Just because a skill is not needed right now doesnt mean it never will be.
Our spiritual gifts are needed in different ways at different times. Needs and circumstances change in unforeseeable and unpredictable ways. The apostle Paul reminded Titus, Be ready for every good work (Titus 3:1). May that be true of us as well.

I think that tune “Hello, Swannee, Hello” is most associated with Al Jolson. But the only recording of it that I particularly know is an old 1920s “78” by some generic band.

In 1966, I was a regular listener of “Boss Radio” 93 KHJ, one of California’s oldest radio stations and the top rock blaster in the Southland at the time. In December of that year, “Hello, Hello” was getting plenty of airplay on KHJ as well as its competitors, KRLA and KFWB.
