Rep. Todd Akin, the embattled Senate candidate who used the phrase legitimate rape in talking about abortion and pregnancy, said Tuesday afternoon that he would stick to his decision to remain in the race.

Once again, not understanding the article, also there is no proof that rape would prevent pregnancy from occurring, as many doctors are now reiterating.
Twisting!
Physicians and rape experts say theres no way the trauma of rape would prevent pregnancy from occurring.
That's not the issue! It's what happens after the rape when the woman learns she's pregnant.
...there is no physiologic method that prevents pregnancy in the case of rape.
Who is claiming that there is a way to "prevent" a pregnancy from happening?
Again, this is about what happens when the woman learns she's pregnant, not about what happens at the time of the criminal act.
I wouldn't say he's stupid - I'd say he's spent so much time preaching to the converted that he thinks other people will agree with him if he just repeats himself. He's learning the hard way that trying to get other people to agree with you is a hard, hard thing, especially if they already have firm, well-established beliefs. Another way of saying this? The guy's not really a politician - a politician can express his views in ways that everybody can agree with. This guy is the opposite of a politician - he talks about his views and even people who share his political alignment disagree with him.
BECAUSE WE WANT TO WIN.If you support him and vote for him, he CAN win.
and what does the word “acute” mean???
The facts don't seem to bear you out. Pennsylvania and Missouri are very different electorally.
Missouri went Rep in 1980, 1984, 1988, 2000, 2004, and 2008.
During that same period PA went Rep 1980, 1984, and 1988--the Reagan and Bush 41 years. Since 1992 PA has been a solid blue state. Obama won PA 54.5% to 48.4%. Obama barely lost Missouri.
I saw Rick Santorum get SLAUGHTERED in 2006 for making similar gaffes that the press blew out of proportion. Only minor difference is that Santorum ran against the (downright worthless) son of a popular former Governor. In the case of Akin, hes running against an incumbent loaded with cash. Kind of similar if you ask me.
Santorum ran into a national buzz saw in 2006. The Dems took back both houses of Congress and a number of governorships. Dissatisfaction with Bush 43 was rampant-not only among Dems but also Reps. The wars, excessive spending, and various other issues spelled doom for the Reps. The Dems got 52% of the national vote compared to 44% for the Reps. The Reps lost 6 senate seats in 2006 and the Dems had all of their 14 incumbents win reelection.
As a result of the 2006 gubernatorial elections, there were 28 Democratic governors and 22 Republican governors, a reversal of the numbers held by the respective parties prior to the elections.
Santorum's loss was more a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Whatever happens in 2012, the senate race will be close. McCaskill"s record hasn't changed nor has Akin's.
How about when the election is won then state what changes can begin? Why inflame the liberals who are doing everything they can to escape Obama's Midas touch, old Claire in particular. What really is the goal? because right now the 'fight' is to get the high minded moderates to vote for a Republican candidate.
How about answering any question on abortion, American needs more than ever her unborn children because the national debt is .....? How about liberals are demanding higher taxes for money already borrowed and we need more taxpayers? Nooooo we get to hear every thirty minutes on the JonStewart media about 'legitimate rape'....
I bet Akin is a hell of lot smarter than you are.
Ah, ego. Well, I got a new tag line.
“Who is claiming that there is a way to “prevent” a pregnancy from happening?”
“”If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.””
AKIN WAS, this is what this whole discussion is about, HOLY crap, calling you dumb was being kind.
What state do you live in?
I agree. Yet the question remains...what happens in the days and weeks after the sperm and egg meet?
Does she address the issue of possible miscarriage through heightened cortisol production caused by stress that might occur from having to emotionally deal with the fact that the woman is pregnant from the rape?
Aside...there it is, recognition that sperm and egg contact is in fact the beginning of life.
Oh yeh right -- she's credible.
Yes and the rat studies that you don’t even comprehend are quite credible as well. :P
I think that's your problem. You have been trying too hard and too many times and can't seem to get it right.
“People were saying this same crap about Sharon Angle and Christine ODonnell when many people saw that they were basically unelectable.”
Sharon Angle and Christine O’Donnell were very electable and would have won were they not sandbagged by the GOP Establishment. Conservatives win when they run as conservatives (and are not sandbagged by the GOP Establishment).
I am afraid the GOP Establishment aiming for a repeat with Rep. Akin.
Please! Stop with the snippets!
Charles Jaco:
Okay, so if an abortion can be considered in the case of, say, tubal pregnancy or something like that, what about in the case of rape? Should it be legal or not?
Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.):
Well, you know, uh, people always want to try to make that as one of those things, Well, how do you how do you slice this particularly tough sort of ethical question.
It seems to me, first of all, from what I understand from doctors, thats really rare. If its a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.
But lets assume that maybe that didnt work or something. You know, I think there should be some punishment but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child.
It's about after the woman learns she's pregnant.
If I'm dumb you're intentionally obtuse!
