Romney should ignore Reid's attempt to change the subject from Obama's failures to Romney's income taxes or just laugh off the stupid attempt to smear him with vague and totally unsubstantiated allegations attributed to an unidentified person that most likely only exists in Reid's clouded mind. He would be easy to mock and dismiss by simply pointing out the amorphous quality of Reid's 'informant' and demanding that Reid provide details for his accusation. He may well not have taken a salary at Bain, only participating in his share of the investment profits, which would be taxed as capital gains.

Then, he may well have boasted to an investor about that as a demonstration of how he wasn’t taking their money unless he made money for them.
