I agree with you. The reality is middle class voters working in the private sector have been living through waves of restructurings, downsizings, and firings due to globalization, corporate mergers, and private equity takeovers. They’ve seen the guys at the top walk away with bonuses or golden parachutes while middle class jobs have gone away, real incomes have dropped, and entire industries have moved production offshore.
Like it or not Romney is the poster child for the hard side of 21st century capitalism. Millions of good nonunion workers have had their loyalty to their companies and free market capitalism rewarded by permanent job and lifestyle loss in their 50’s and early 60’s. I know many highly productive former middle managers who pound the pavement everyday looking for jobs that no longer exist for people their ages and who have just about burned through their life savings and faith in the system. I’m seen men and women who were hard nosed conservatives shift to the victim bandwagon and join the Obama parade. To them Romney represents more of the same — work your tail off until we can find someone who will do your job for less and we’ll discard you.
This attitude is real. Desperate people do desperate things. When there are no jobs and savings are gone people do what they have to do to survive even if it means giving up core beliefs. In a close race, Obama portraying Romney as the guy who cost somebody their job may resonate with enough middle class voters to swing the election.
Romney is letting Obama define him and it isn’t a flattering picture. He can’t win this war by playing defense. If he doesn’t clearly define Obama as someone worse than a vulture capitalist, he will lose.
By refusing to be transparent Romney is already playing by their rules.
saying Romney “must have calculated that there are higher costs in releasing them.”

I reckon he’s spot on there.
The fact that 0 has been similarly evasive isn’t an excuse - especially not when you’re trying to portray yourself as the better choice.
“How about Obamas US birth certificate, George Will? The man is a phoney and the media looks the other way.:
Surely Romney can learn from Obama’s failures. Obama took a lot of political heat and lost support because of his failure to release his birth certificate and other relevant papers. Why should Romney be so stupid as to follow his lead? Why should he rely on the pathetic defense of, well, you didn’t ask Obama to do it? Why not just release the records and let the public see the truth?
Yes, he is Constitution Party.
Last presidential they were on 40 ballots. Each time around though they have to recertify to be on the ballot. It’s an inequity, but it is the game, so you’ve got to play it.
