Nice speech but I’ve always heard “If “ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we’d all have a Merry Christmas”. No one is going to do anything. Conservatives are all talk and no action, all hat and no cattle.
There are no more men like those who founded this country. Those types are dead and gone, never to be revived. Sad but true. So while our choice of a Presidential candidate is not the most optimum, it is a better choice than the occupier we currently have in the White House.
Exactly. The party has left us.
TeaParty candidates are winning in the primaries.
I agree with you. The Tea Party/Small government types seem to be gaining all the time. Heck...even a Romney looks like a Patrick Henry against a Richard Nixon or Gerald Ford or a GWHB.
No need to panic and give up the whole playing field because you think the coach sent in the wrong quarterback.
Sometimes we just can't take yes for an answer.
“I sure wish Romney would fight Obama as hard as he fought conservatism in the primaries. Just sayin’.”
You don’t rough up your friends.
At one time i said that i wouldn’t support Romney, especially after what happened in the Florida primary with the negative avalanche against Gingrich and the way Romney went after him in the Florida debate.
But i’ve changed my mind. Not that i’m suddenly swooning for Romney but to me it’s not really about Romney or Obama: it’s about the media. The media which put Obama over the top; that have put many lefties over the top who wouldn’t otherwise have gotten anywhere; that have shifted the country further and further to the left over the last 30 or 40 years by promoting every half-baked liberal cause and ridiculing or ignoring everything conservative.
It is little short of a coup d’etat. They set the agenda, they control the chessboard, they cover what they want to cover, cover up what they don’t want to cover. And they don’t even seem to care if it’ll them in the pocketbook. They want to completely defeat conservatives at almost any cost.
We all know this. But i fear if they aren’t checked now there will be no stopping them.
So to me, a resounding defeat of Obama will be a devastating defeat for the media. It will make them see that their unrelenting propaganda won’t continue to work and that they either need to become more balanced or else they’ll become more and more irrelevant. I’m not saying they’ll change overnight, it will take a while, but it is a necessary first step in my opinion.
As for Romney vs Obama, there is one big difference. Obama doesn’t care if the country is weakened in order to achieve his goals. In fact, that seems to be precisely what he thinks must be done. My sense is that Romney does care and will restore some sanity to the White House. Plus, he will be someone who other leaders will respect far more than they do Obama. That is not necessarily saying much, but it is something.
For those reasons i am hoping Romney will win. I’m not expecting much from a Romney presidency, but hopefully i will be pleasantly surprised in some areas. Especially when it comes to appointing a Supreme Court judge and helping get the economy back on track.
Romney is about the worst person we could have at this point in history with everything at stake.
Having said that, you are 100% correct.
We must support Romney lest the Kenyan get re-elected.
“Get Jim back on his meds! That screed is full of lunacy. If All jims succeed in not voting guess who will win. Are you going to like that result? We have to get Obama out, period.
Anything is better than four more years of his crap.
I like Free Republic and donate, but Jim is wrong!! If you follow his advise you will regret it. You may be proud of yourself, but stupid.”
4 years of Statist Obama vs 8 Years of Statist Mittens. Hmmmmmmm, seems the lesser of two evils thing isn’t as clear cut as you would like. Mittens doesn’t even have a legitimate plan to deal with the deficit, and has even promised more spending in the form of defense increases... but with no real cuts in anything else that is raising our 15 trillion dollar deficit higher by millions every day.
C’mon, we’re headed towards a reset. No doubt about it. And I honestly see no benefit in having Mittens running the show when the collapse happens. It will ruin our credibility as a movement since we voted for and supported the Statist under whom it collapsed.
You are going to get one whether you vote or not. The only thing is...one of them is a dedicated communist. I'll take any liberal over a dedicated communist. Who knows he may not be as liberal as you predict.
There seems to be an awful lot of people on here who are just as delusional as the moonbats that still show up at the Madison Capitol despite having had their asses handed to the twice now. If the TEA party is dead, how do you explain Wisconsin? Romney wasn’t forced on anyone, for whatever reason the majority of GOP voters selected Romney. There may have been some Democrat crossover votes but in Wisconsin, the Dems were urging people to support Santorum. Romney was not my first choice but I’m not going to waste my vote and let 0bama finish the job of destryoing this country in a second term, just because I’m throwing a temper tantrum that my guy didn’t win.
Longbow1969:
Congratulations for writing a post that is filled with common sense.
As I read you, you are no more enamored of Romney than I am. But you also realize that the choices we are given are what they are. To insist on a further choice is to choose the way of revolution, and not that of an ordered, lawful, representative republic ... and we are not there yet.
So, to me, it is a simple choice: Obama versus Romney, that is, horrible and destructive to our constitutional republic, versus better than horrible but not nearly enough of what we truly need. I will vote for better every time, even as I would vote for a sinking ship to be kept afloat for one more hour in the hope that help would come or more survivors would be rescued. In the case of the Titanic, for example, one more hour (or a little more) would have seen the RMS Carpathia arrive on scene and thus able to rescue many hundreds more of Titanic’s passengers and crew.
Ladies and gentlemen, I respect your judgment and conscience, one and all. But we are now in a general election, as our constitution allows and enables, primary election thinking is no longer valid or helpful. Obama needs to go, and something better, however incrementally small that “better” is, needs to replace him.
What he said...
Huh.
That is not how I vote. I have always voted for someone.
Sleep well, my vote doesn’t count anyway, I live in California.
Oh, since the “health care law” medicare implantation started last year, I was forced off my husbands health plan at 65 to go on medicare. (Nope I can not get a private policy) and medicare is already rationals drugs and services.
You know the healthcare bill that was formed first by Romney and his team, and his advisers says he will not repeal.
Do what you need to do.
I agree with you. Why waste your vote as JIM describes and get no where.
As to these people who want to say”mittens” grow up and wake up. It is a two party system and one party has a horrible candidate, I.E. OBAMA.If you do not vote, you are effectively voting for Obama. Great idea Jim????? You get to lose double time.
I really wish that were the case, however Romney’s political life says otherwise.
Rest easy, I live in California my vote doesn’t mean anything.
I’m not voting for Romney no matter how desperate the screeching gets.
Period.
Rush and the other talkers let Rove, the Bushes, and the rest of the Republican establishment make Romney the nominee. Had they come out strongly for Bachman early on, we would have a conservative nominee.
Now all we have is another big government establishment hack who might move us to the left and tyranny a little slower than Obama will. Once again the talkers are saying that this is the most important election of our lifetimes, just like they have every 4 years since Reagan (the last time we had a conservative nominee).
No matter if Romney or Obama wins we are going the way of Greece. The only two questions now are; how fast we go and will we lift the cup of hemlock to our own lips?
Calling him Mittens remindse me of how the libs and unionistas call Gov. Walker “Scooter”. Very childish.
No, they won't change, but they will have to get in the back of the bus, again, for a while. Because they won't control the zone.
Huh?
GW Bush is Reagan compared to Romney.
Rest easy I live in California my vote means nothing.
Romney is not now or has he ever been a conservative, and spent most of his political life trying to destroy them.
So do what you need to do.
I am not voting for a liberal, one may become president, it will not be with my help.
