I've been talking about Romneys apparent strategy of playing "prevent defense" against Obama even before this writer wrote this and I know there's another saying about 'prevent defense' - it prevents the one leading from actually winning most times

That is a terrible decision. Romney needs to hammer ObamaCare specifically because it will be a huge drag on the economy. Far more important though, and it’s not entirely a surprise, voters need to sweep the liberals out of the US House and the Senate in a landslide that will make 2010 look mild. We need a Congress so conservative that Romney will not be able to sustain any veto of conservative legislation and we won’t need the Supreme Court to protect the Constitution from the Legislative Branch. This is a war between good and evil, and we need every living member of our side to show up on election day.

A prevent defense also means that even if you're somehow still leading in the 4th quarter, you usually find yourself having to scramble and do all kinds of crazy crap to try and run the clock out and win. It also puts your opponent in the driver's seat, because it's very easy to force mistakes.
