Right, I reread your response, and it makes sense that way. Your conclusion is correct!
The article says the League denied her coverage, which says to me they didn’t even try to recover on her behalf.
And if their insurer had denied coverage for whatever reason to an injured player, the League would no doubt step up and pay the medical bills — as they should.
They should do no less for a bystander.
