This one, though, has what is clearly a Breton name ~ Ker ~ ney ~ meaning some darned thing fur shur.

Did you know those people had at least 5 different spelling conventions going simultaneously throughout the Middle Ages ~ and even today their names go all over the place.

A Welsh fellow told me some time back that when his father was a kid they could still take a boat over to Brittany and find people they could understand, but since then public education has taken over and they have become just as incomprehensible as the French.
