interesting thoughts and challenge

The left are quick to say that any criticism of Obama is rooted in racism.

Those who raise the level of conversation to ideology and facts, of course know that's poppycock.

Those that say the same of Mittens, criticism is rooted in his belief of Mormonism, hopefully will take a deep breath before speaking.

Thank you for your post. There are many that feel the same as you. During the primaries, it was getting really boring here, as there was really no discussion of substance which I as a fairly new FReeper had come to expect of this site. It was flaming against Romney and Mormonism 24/7 and vicious, virulent attacks against anyone supporting Romney. But don’t give up. Don’t go anywhere. Stay and work to unite bc we have a lot of work to do to get the real community jihadist creep out of the WH and the only possible way to do it is w/ Romney.

stalwart defender of traditional values, glowing example of Christian charity at home and around the world, the most conservative people of all religious groups, and staunch defenders of the principles of the constitution and values that built the country. No matter how much you disagree with us on religious matters, we are and should be treated as valuable conservative allies.

I've tried saying this before but unfortunately, some care more about theological differences that have absolutely nothing to do with the Constitutional role of government. I'll tell you what I usually tell everyone, this too will pass.

Splendid post. You say what many of us feel. I don’t judge anyone by their religion, it is above my pay grade.,

Thank you for your post. The anti-Mormonism from some Freepers is a bit too much.

FR has dwindled into an insular, nearly feral, group of political and religious thought police

I consider myself insular & feral. But I too am troubled by the thought police. I used to be addicted to FR. Now I just check in from time to time for old time sake.

wow

Did you really just speak that about the man who gave Massachusetts gay marriage?
more taxes?
state run health care?
Gun banning legislation?
bragging he was more pro-abortion than TED KENNEDY?

You really are delusional

You kidding? Well the question answers itself. However, I am obliged to respond to your “attacking Mormonism” claim.

LDS sends 52.000 missionaries world wide to tell the rest of us we are wrong, Whores of Babylon, Apostates, Gracers and quite a few other names, pejorative or whatever you want to call it.

Most Christians do not know one thing about LDS while on the contrary LDS missionaries are equipped with the basics in Christianity and actively work to undermine those Christians faith and replace it with yours.

We seek to educate Christians regarding the history of LDS leadership, their stances, Church Doctrine and contrast it with Christianity.

They are distinctly different and we aim to keep our brothers and sisters in our fold.

If you find that offensive I’m surprised and would think if your faith in your faith is strong enough it should sustain you.

Now back to worshiping in my fallen and pack of lies faith.... Some leader of LDS said something like that. in fact, I could go on all day quoting pablum like that from LDS leadership

I’m dismayed about how politics have become. It has become quiet clear that both sides republican and democrats play games and betray the people of the country. Both sides have taken us a step toward bigger and bigger government. This is why the tea party began. And now both sides are bad. It has become Rinos and Progressives. They all hate the tea party type conservatives. The whole scenario is backwards now. Romney is not the right guy. There is no savior either. Romney at this moment is a bit of a unknown as to how he will govern just like Obama was. He has a really bad record. Should have been laughed off stage. Primaries were stolen from Conservatives. Things have gotten crazy. Romney is no contrast to Obama.

Well then, defend Mormonism.

If I post a comparison of scripture in comparison to Mormon books and literature, tell me why I should see it as christian.

I, in comparison to the scripture, see Mormonsim as blatantly pagan in nature. It differs not a wit to paganism.

If I'm “abusing” freedom of speech by pointing out the differences, so be it.

But, then I would say it is you that, in your original thinking the 2nd amendment was silly, still don't understand what it means.

If Mormon's decided they weren't going to call themselves christian anymore....fine, end of debate.

You need a thicker skin....if you're going to embrace free speech.

I don't find it coincidental that your post occurs now that there is a Mormon running for the Presidency.

Actually, if find it ironic, if not too perdictable.

I care not how anyone worships, what they worship, what path they say is the true path or even if they worship anything at all.

What matters is do they want to use government force to make me believe what they believe? Do they want to use government force to limit or ban consensual transactions between consenting adults?

Do they want to use government force for any other reason to defend the US citizens from attacks or to prevent US citizens from harming one another or prosecute those that have harmed others?

That was then, now more and more it has felt like FR has dwindled into an insular, nearly feral, group of political and religious thought police whose mission is to ferret out anybody who doesn’t fit their orthodoxy and get rid of them, while propagandizing against anything the disagree with. At times it feels more energy is spent attacking those who should be seen as allies rather than the true enemies.

Indeed! Yesterday I simply commented that I'm no fan of Arpaio. This was the first response:

You have only been here a week. By a majority of the members here Arpaio is likely the most respected person in government around here...I suggest you keep your underlying negative comments about him to yourself if you want to stay.

I don’t spend a lot of time on FR anymore, but I can tell you for an absolute certainty that the personal attacks here today are nothing compared to the flame wars during the krinton era. That was truly the age of Titans. I shuddered to read the nearly nuclear shrieking rants back then. The new freedom of the net and the absence if tone in posts led to nothing short of cyber murder in many cases.

Today’s whining weenies need to take their vitamins and they usually go about boasting about some silly educational or vocational merit to bolster their intellectual global supremacy and preening, idiotic claims to know the mind of God.

Think about it and just get over it. If you don’t like people pushing their orthodoxy, get up and get something from the fridge or go weed the garden.

Sheesh.

Wait a minute, that's exactly what I was thinking about YOUR post.

I'm sure Mitt will win. And our future will be:

I blame it all on you.

Speaking of “dare,” I daresay that had Mitt Romney been as conservative as most Mormons, there would be far less acrimony now. But nooooo, he’s been largely indistinguishable from Harry Reid on most issues of the day. Had you gained as fine an appreciation for our founding principles over the course of your being a FReeper, I also daresay that you’d be able to overcome mere tribalism to recognize the weakness of the candidate in this regard. No one ever saw me going to the mat for Mike Huckabee, despite apparent religious common ground. He’s an advocate of big government. There we parted ways. That you apparently are unwilling or unable to do the same says much about your priorities, which would appear to be rather oddly grounded in group identity for a putative constitutional conservative.
