Moron state education officials in Oregon banned use of Indian nicknames for schools.
Guess who is pissed off? The Indians.
Epic Fail.

Once one panders to any particular group it will never end.
Solution - don't pander.

Just name your school the Warrens. Even she's no longer sure if she's an Indian or not. :-)

This whole thing certainly is moronic. Would you actually name your team after something you wanted to mock? No, you name it after something that you think is gallant, noble, worthy of honor. Lefties truly are idiots!

Typical white guilt at work. Patronize some group that neither wants or appreciates the “help” being offered.
By the way, my favorite story about this relates to Arkansas State University. A few years back, the ASU community was looking for replacement nicknames for the Indians, and one of the most popular mascot choices was a train locomotive, with the teams called the “Engines”. Needless to say, that idea was nixed.

Thugs all over the nation are offended at Yuma High School for their mascot.

Last week, on a 5-1 vote, the Oregon Board of Education banned public schools from using American Indian names and mascots for their athletic teams, out of a concern they disparage native people. Those names are chosen by the schools in honor of Braves, Warriors, Indians, etc.
BTW, since when did N.A. Indians become the only group with "Warriors"?

Tuba City High School is on Warrior Drive on reservation land. It has been a number of years and may have changed, but the gym, which is very visible from the main drag, has an image (~20 ft high)of the Indian shown above painted on the side underneath is proclaimed: "Home of the fighting Warriors".

To this day, the PC nazis will just roll their eyes when you ask them about the Florida Seminoles or Utah Utes.
The reason is because when this crap first surfaced, those tribes went to the NCAA weenies and demanded that the mascots be left alone.
Everyone who waited or, worse, thought they could negotiate their cooperation into free stuff (scholarships, minority studies, etc.), is now suffering under the jack boots of the spawn of the original PC nazis.

Indian nicknames for athletic teams have always paid a compliment to Indians (which many of them have long realized), lauding as they do bravery and a fighting spirit, among other positives.I think the PC aversion that favors Native American over Indian as designations for Indians has a lot to do with it.What school will be the first to adopt the name The Native Americans for their school and teams? Not going to happen.
I see nothing wrong with calling Indians Indians. Many of them do it themselves and we still have a Bureau of Indian Affairs.Everyone knows American Indians don't come from India. The name has important associations with American history and as such should not be expunged from our vocabulary. And if that wasn't enough, everyone born in America is a native American.

The most patently ethnically-offensive mascot I know is the pugnacious-looking little lepruachan of the Celtics. (I’m sick of these Irish stereotypes — as soon as I finish my drink, I’m going to punch somebody!) Of course, no one is trying to PC him away to salve the sensitvities of the Irish, and he is beloved to the point of being a very popular tatoo here in the People’s Rep. of Mass. Anyone who is proud of and confident in their ethnicity can enjoy the humor inherent in caricature. Lack of true pride and confidence is probably why the Muzzies always get their head-towels in a bunch whenever someone draws a cartoon.
