what happened
Anyone who mindlessly believes that we are still “free” is an idiot. Hate me if you want, but you know it’s the truth.
Crud! I forgot to check the “excerpt” box. The link is up top and right here for the story: http://www.naturalnews.com/035524_Andrew_Wordes_Roswell_chickens.html
The guy had over a hundred chickens some living
in his house, the problem is that he lived in
Roswell when it was country, and it’s not that
any more. Certainly the city was overboard and
I expect there will be lawsuits.
Committed suicide during and eviction standoff with police. Evicting him over chickens.
Any lawsuits win will be coming out of the tax base, not the city official’s pockets.
Libertarian ping
That claim is not in the story. Do you have a link to a story with this claim proven in it?
Pretty chicken $#!+ if you ask me.
These monsters should be arrested, charged and convicted of murder.
From this story, suicide has not been determined:
And though the incident appears to have been a desperate suicide, which is how some reports categorized it right off the bat, others are worded as to leave room for the potential possibility of foul play.
While it has not yet been determined whether Wordes' death was a suicide or a murder, it is clear that the City of Roswell has a whole lot of explaining to do concerning its role in the escalation of this situation over the past four years.
What a horrible story.
Thank God the LEOs are safe...and the hell with this poor property owner.
As a result of the announcement, his home was broken into, ransacked and vandalized, and his firearms and ammunition were stolen.
Any crimes committed with those stolen weapons should be charged against the foul bastards responsible for making it public knowledge that they were unguarded.
Tyrannical City Government PING!
I was told this by a Roswell resident who lived
close to this guy.
Totally hearsay your honor.
I did not personally count the chickens
before or after they hatched.
They’re are legal gangsters. Thugs of the “law”. Criminals in uniform. They all deserve long prison sentences.
The chicken man' of Roswell: A timeline
February 2009 -- Roswell Code Enforcement officers cite Andrew Wordes for violating the city's ban on raising livestock by having close to a dozen chickens on his nearly 1-acre property.
March 2009 -- Former Georgia Gov. Roy Barnes joins the fray by agreeing to represent Wordes in municipal court.
May 2009 -- Municipal Judge Maurice Hilliard dismisses the case against Wordes after Barnes argues that the city code relating to livestock is too vague.
December 2009 -- The City Council approves a new ordinance that bans roosters and uses lot size to determine how many chickens a resident can keep.
July 2011 -- Wordes tells police that someone broke into his home, accessed his pens and poisoned his poultry. About 30 of approximately 100 chickens and turkeys die. Lab tests are inconclusive.
August 2011 -- Wordes is ordered to spend three months in jail after Municipal Judge Maurice Hilliard finds him guilty of probation violation. Wordes had been granted probation for having too many vehicles on his property and for grading backfill without a permit.
February 2012 -- Wordes receives word that he is to be evicted from his home for failure to pay his mortgage. He tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution he doesn't see a "happy ending" to the matter.
March 26, 2012 -- Marshals arrive at Wordes' home to serve eviction papers. Wordes responds with threats, and an explosion follows, destroying the house. A body is found but has not yet been identified.
This was definitely a case of government officials targeting a person who they felt had got one over on them, with tragic consequences. The only good I can think of is that Roswell city officials were lucky this guy didn't have access to a bulldozer and a bunch of concrete or else he may have taken the fight to them before he went. Not that I care about the government guys but it would have wasted more taxpayer money rebuilding City Hall (those of you who don't know what I'm talking about: Google Marvin Heemeyer )
Petty tyrants wanted his property, and when he didn’t roll over, they played fast and dirty with the rules. When he ran out of options and resources, I think he figured his last chance at defiance was to fire off a flare for the rest of us to see with his death.
“Chicken Man”? Hell, that’s more courage than I’d likely have. God bless his soul, and damnation to his tormentors.
