My point is oil is a strategic commodity, and when war breaks out with china it wont stop at the Canadian border.

There won't be a war with China.

And I wouldn't worry too much about Canada. The US, with increasing access and production to shale gas, is beginning to depress prices of natural gas. And is beginning to export it. Who knows, China could be a significant buyer of American natural gas someday.

Also, keep in mind, the US has the largest coal reserves in the world. While Australia exports the most coal to the world and to China, the US has that potential to surpass even Australia. If those West Coast terminals are built, it would set a precedent for further ports. And US exports of coal to China would be big business.

As energy demand rises in China, its possible, that someday, America, with her large land mass, would join the ranks of Canada, Russia, Australia, Russia, and Brazil, of exporting commodities to China. Timber is another such resource. And China would simply become a up sized version of Germany or Japan, where land to people ratio is very low, and they need to export high tech products to import resources from far away lands.

The future of the globe looks bright :)

...insert some adult Americans...

That's the problem in a nutshell.

Too many Americans are still transfixed by Scooby Doo et al.

Life is not a cartoon, America.

Two advantages of your geography
1— You don’t share a border with a psychotic 3rd world country (Mexico)
2— Your cold weather keeps the riffraff out.

Well, you've hit two of the highlights. Let me add:

3. Access to the number one consumer market in the world.

4. Only one neighbor, also a member of the anglosphere, with a peaceful border since 1814 (that's almost 200 years).

5. Until now, now waves of economic refugees heading north, just periodic waves of political refugees whom we have been able to assimilate.

6. Probably more natural resources than any other nation on earth.

7. No need to pay for our own defense because the US would never let another power invade us.

There’s no reason Canada can’t sell it’s oil to both the US and Canada. So many Freepers think it’s one or the other. But you’re wrong.
