I should've been more specific. I was commenting on the primary candidates; not alternative strategies for Conservatives.
I agree w/your Congressional strategy and plan to employ it.
As a related issue: I am already planning to vote for (shudder) Ron Paul in the VA GOP pseudo-Primary; which, as you are probably aware, was "rigged" by the state GOP, headed by Gov McDonnell, so that we have to choose between Romney and Paul; no other names appear on the ballot and no "write-ins" are allowed.
Take care,
-Geoff
PROTEST VOTE for Ron Paul in the VA GOP PRIMARY!!!
GO NEWT!!!
Totally agree. I’ve even met him and he has a supercilious, “I’m way smarter than any of you” attitude. I also don’t like the fact that he kept “trading up” with his wives. Obama’s minions would eat him up. That being said I would vote for Pinochicco over Obama. We’ve got to get him out!
I did see yesterday Greg Jarrett ask a Romney supporter about why 42% of republicans dislike Romney and about why people in the conservative base will not support Romney. And he just couldn’t answer it. He kept deflecting to how Myth could win the general and was the best candidate and won New Hampshire and Florida. He really gave a weak defense to Romney.
Then Kelly Anne Conway was on later and hammered away at Brad Blakeman who as for Romney. Kelly is for Newt. She really gave it to Brad. Then even later Michael Reagan debated Ann Coulter and he was doing a good job but idiot Myth came on stage to talk and they cut away.
So at least there are a few people out there defending Newt. Kudos also to Greg for asking questions that tripped up a Romney supporter guy.
I call ‘em like I see ‘em!!! Just so you know......politics is a dirty game!!! Newt....like any other politician has mucho baggage!!! And...he ain’t the perfect conservative, either, not after his NY-10 betrayal, or his loving it up with Nancy Pelosi, or cuddling up to Al Sharpton!!! His “sour grapes” rants have sunk him. You can believe in and support whomever you wish. I’m more pragmatic, I think. I simply want POTUS Barack Hussein Obama and his “destroy America” Democrat Party massively defeated come, November, 2012!!!
So.....you guys can beat and whip on me all you want....Newt Gingrich is toast, and...he toasted himself!!! Romney, Paul and my guy, Rick Santorum outclass him by a mile!!! My dad used to tell me a man or woman that has no humility, no tact, no diplomacy, no humbleness, is one you don’t want to hang out with. Sorry......folks, I love this site and all the folks that post, but....the truth is still the truth. We are fighting to save our country and...little, ego driven folks is the last thing we need!!! We already have one in the White House!!!
Sadly Victor Davis Hansen is probably a Mitt shill.
Me too!! since 1992... what’s the deal?? I’ve come to realize that I listen to Rush because he agrees with me...not because I agree with him
What we need are CLOSED PRIMARIES
I agree, voters and political reporters have unfairly confused the two.
But that is Newt's fault.
He consciously chose to break a long political tradition.
He chose to have a post-election press conference BEFORE he gave a speech to his supporters.
That was a bad political decision, and probably a reckless decision.
I'll vote for Newt if he's nominated.
But he is a badly diminished shell of the man who led the Republican Revolution in 1994.
VDH is nobody's "shill." He might be for Romney, I can't tell from his writing. But when he offers a critique, it's worth thinking about. I believe he's correct in his advice to Newt to get back on message and stop the mud-wrestling.
It may not be fair, but Newt is particularly bad at it. He should focus on what he's good at which is inspiring people.
We can have them any time we like.
But the GOP - or Conservatives - have to pay for them.
Today, state taxpayers pay for our primaries.
When the state pays, the state makes the rules.
We can be as negative as we like. But it's beyond foolish to tar and feather a dependably conservative writer because he criticized the tactics -- not the ideas, mind you, which he praised -- but the campaign tactics of our candidate.
Too many of Newt's supporters are getting as hysterical at perceived criticism as Palin's were. It's very annoying not to be able to have a discussion about Newt, about both his successes and his failures without being called names or being insulted. [That last is not any reference to you]
In the case of Virginia we don't even have partisan registration ~ which we need first.
But as far as changing the rules here was concerned, it was the Party's rules that screwed everything up.
The big Republican dogs changed them during the period for collecting signatures on nominating petitions.
I think we also need to purge Virginia's Republican party of cheaters and frauds.
Next time take it like a man ~ it's your responsibility to FIX YOUR GRAMMAR, not mine.
Well.....compared to my boy Newt? Yeah. Newt always looks tired and angry.
Every Election Cycle, people get all hyped up over the possibility of a Brokered Convention. The last time that happened was in 1952 when the Dems nominated Gov. Adlai Stevenson of Illinois; 60 years ago. It won’t happen, my friend. Someone will get the “Big Mo” and get the Delegates. But, hey, I’d love to see it.
Yeah, check my posting history, Einstein. I've been for Newt since the second debate. You will find ME in the first two debates telling everyone Newt was who we needed when the rest were gushing over Bachman and Cain. I've been a Newt fan since '94. Somewhere along the way he lost his edge.
Thank you. The whole thing is set up to allow independents to pick our nominee.
I listened to Newt and he was most passionate about the misinformation from Mitt during the second Florida debate. The message I got was that Newt will begin to dismantle the Mitt message in the next debates. Newt told how he held back his response in that last Florida debate. He revealed in the presser that the misinformation that Romney gave had him so outraged, that he did not have words for them. He revealed that he had never experienced such outrageous behavior in his entire political career. My thoughts were it was better for Newt to be shocked speechless at this early stage than to be speechless with Obama’s hogwash. I think Newt learned something and, if you were listening, he revealed that he was not going to let it happen again. It is something he took as an important lesson if he were to debate Obama.
If you listened very closely, Newt revealed that he is playing things very differently in the next debates. What Newt wants to do is make it more and more clear that Mitt is not up to the task to take on Obama. And, in the coming months it will be Newt’s job to show the American electorate that Romney is not up to the task to win the election or, for that matter, be our next President. At the same time, Newt will make the case that he is the only candidate that will lead America forward from the abyss that Obama has taken us.
And, Newt revealed that Mitt has an Achilless heel: he lies and when the American electorate catches him on it, which they will, he loses.
Newt revealed these things to me at his presser. He was very tired from a hard schedule, but he was passionate. That passion sounds “whiny” but that is the way Newt’s voice sounds when he is passionate about his convictions.
I have met Newt myself. He is a very humble person when you reach out to him as a friend. If you give him the look of an opponent, he is a warrior, which is just the man we want fighting for our freedom. He is just that man that God has given us . . . and, that woman, Sarah Palin.
