I find it hard to believe that anyone in politics as long as Romney has, and especially one surviving the furnaces of MA, hasn’t been extremely well vetted.
Romney really hasn’t been vetted on the Mormon issue, because Republicans want to be polite and tolerant PC. But there are a number of legitimate questions to ask.
If Romney is a true Mormon, he believes he is working towards becoming a god. That’s why he must always act as if he is perfect. Gingrich is flawed and has admitted the same as a Christian, but for Romney to admit that he has been imperfect is to admit he isn’t getting revelations from gods and isn’t on the fast track to his own planet.
If you don’t see how this might warp his sense of judgment, then you haven’t been around Alpha Mormons like I have. godly hubris explains a lot about the way Harry Reid acts.
If you read the history of how Joseph Smith got kicked out of Far West and Nauvoo, setting off wars in the process as a tinpot general, much less the actions of Brigham Young and blood atonement, you’d realize just how scary a Mormon in the White House could be.
