That’s a non-binding primary that elects no delegates. The real Missouri caucus that assigns delegates comes later. Newt’s campaign said they did not intend to participate in the non-binding primary.
Equal protection clause.
A shame. I have little use for Rick Perry, but still wanted to see him on the ballot.
I suspect it has to do with the 400 signatures in each district rule, but none of the articles specify.
They just shout, “Perry Disqualified!”
The Virginia State Republican Party has announced that Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney and Ron Paul are the only three GOP contenders to qualify for their March 6 GOP primary ballot. It wouldn't surprise me if this is bogus... But for what it's worth...
Woot for Newt if so! He’s got that primary locked judging by how poorly Romney and Paul fared last time.
Thanks.
I still say it smells fishy.
Rereading the report no where in the Wapost story does it say “RPV sent a media advisory”. Instead it says “State GOP officials reported” and has no official quotes.
Now accepting the fact that MSM writers are publix skol edumakaded and the story could be poorly written, either of us could be right, but I am not ready to write off Perry not being on the ballot. Lot of wishful thinking posters may be in for a surprise come next week.
His campaign has until Tuesday to turn in the required number. If some worker has a missing sheet surely it could be submitted until the deadline unless there is some hanky-panky going on with RPV.
Let me 'splain you, dear brother.
We don't have Lindsey Graham. You own that.

There is speculation that Newt won't have enough valids...only Romney and Paul would be on the ballot.
Maybe Perry submitted them on double-sided pages and they forgot to check the backs...
Sources inside the room tell NBC12 that Perry did not even come close.
Then claims over 50% of the signatures are bunk and that Kilgore confirms it?
Yelp, One difficult district. One difficult county chairperson who refuses to promptly share the list of registered R voters in the district can knock a person out.
That’s NBC12 news in Richmond.
I know it’s hard to believe.
Hell, it’s hard enough in some districts/precincts to get volunteers to hand out sample ballots, much less request signatures! But I agree they SHOULD have thought ahead and had tables set up where that was possible.
The various county committees could also have had petitions available at monthly meetings for ALL the candidates. But during ‘collection season’ they were focused on the upcoming state elections. Hopefully, they’re better prepared in the future.
I have a few ‘issues’ with electoral politics in VA. 1. no registration by party, we we can’t even really ID our own people; 2. having elections every single year wears volunteers down real fast; 3. at least MY County Committee’s members’ average age is @ 65. I think they keep going to the meetings to see old friends, but God forbid they do lit drops, signature gathering, etc. We need some new, young blood!
NBC12 is reporting that only 4 to 6K of the 11,911 signatures are valid.
This stinks so bad!
Do they have numbers or not?!!
This entire breaking story has been all innuendo and headlines with no solid numbers.
I am to believe that a guy who has served 4 consecutive terms in Texas missed the mark by 50% or MORE?

Is it 4k or is it 6K? WTF?
I feel sorry for you.
Next NBC12 will be telling me that Perry personally forged all 11,911 signatures! LoL
He probably accidentally hired the firm who collected signatures for Acorn and they collected signatures like these...

“The signatures of Adolf Hitler and Mickey Mouse will be counted in the effort to recall Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, so long as they are properly dated and bear a Wisconsin address.”
