May I also add to this wish list , Kathleen Troia “KT” McFarland is a national security commentator and columnist who appears weekly on a number of TV, online and national radio programs. Ms. McFarland held national security posts in the Nixon, Ford and Reagan Administrations, and received the Defense Department’s highest civilian award. She ran as a Republican candidate for the US Senate from New York in 2006. !
She is up to date and runs the same line as Bolton. She could be a real help to Bolton, if she were at the Pentagon.

Commencement Address at Boston College (Secretary Condoleezza Rice, Boston, Massachusetts, May 22, 2006. US Department of State)

Excerpts:

As a student of a Catholic high school, the Sisters of Loretta taught me, I am pleased to be at an institution of higher education with such strong and celebrated Catholic and Jesuit traditions . . . You see, I got my Master's Degree at Notre Dame. (Boos.) I acquired a passion for the fighting Irish . . . and my family has been college educated and Presbyterian ever since. (Laughter and applause.) . . . I wandered into a course on international politics taught by a Czech refugee who specialized in Soviet studies, a man who had a daughter by the name of Madeleine Albright. With that one class, I was hooked. I discovered that my passion was Russia and all things Russian.

I know all about John Bolton. I have nothing against him, and in fact quite like him. I just have the feeling most people are cheering this because Bolton sounds good on Fox and is the only person Gingrich could name-drop that wouldn’t require everyone to scramble for a search engine.

‘Most conservatives have heard of him and he hasn’t pissed them off yet’ doesn’t necessarily mean ‘most qualified.’ He might be, but I think the rah-rah on this thread is funny.

Newt better hope for a landslide GOP gain in the Senate to reach the 60 votes needed to prevent conservative nominees, like Bolton, from being filibustered.

Perhaps that can be part of the coattail campaign strategy.

OR it is because Bolton did a very good job in his short time at the UN and the Dems decided to place one person in Congress during every recess so that Bush could not recess appoint him again.

“........what makes everyone so sure that John Bolton would be the best Secretary of State? “

If I have to explain it to you, you wouldn’t understand anyway.

Go Newt Go.....

Let's try and raise the level of discourse and see if I'm right about most people rooting for Bolton because he's gotten lots of publicity: who is your second choice if Bolton says no?

“President’s are allowed to chose their Secretary of State.”

Um...unless the president is Newt and the nominee is Bolton?
