Based on what? His 2 point lead over Obama in the last Rasmussen poll?

I’d probably vote Mittens over Newter.

John Huntsman and honestly, Ron Paul is all we have left...

I predict ozone in your future.

I would rather have someone in government who acts to get government out of our healthcare entirely than someone like Gingrich who simply wants to tweak it.

Conservatives outnumber liberals in this country by 3 to 1

<><><><><

Where do those numbers come from? And in your context what does conservative and liberal mean?

How does Obama gain the white house if those numbers are true?

There's a reason every DNC Talking Head at CNN & MSNBC all love Huntsman.

That's because he's the most like them (LIBERAL) of all the candidates.

Geeezzzzz!

"I agree with his position on privatizing Social Security. But I do not support his position on everyone having insurance. No matter how he wants to do it, it is still a government mandate. It is not the government’s job to make sure I have health insurance. And I will not support candidates who believe otherwise. Newt is one of those candidates."
You are entitled to your opinions, but that does not give you the right to misquote, misrepresent and deceive. Your post is no answer to mine. I don't agree with Mr. Newt on everything, but I respect him enough to defend him against such a blatant falsehood. Rather than posting an out-of-context quote from 1993 (I was mistaken saying it was 1995, as was Glenn Beck) representing it as something he said yesterday and condescending to all without a clue about the facts, try finding the truth:
Newt: I Oppose ObamaCare Mandate Period
Newt believes it is unconstitutional for the federal government to impose an individual mandate requiring citizens to buy health insurance.

He is committed to the complete repeal of Obamacare and he supports the lawsuits of various state’s Attorneys General challenging its constitutionality.

In a free society you cannot tell citizens what they should buy and what those things should be.

Newt also believes individuals should be responsible to pay for the care that they receive.

Under the 10th Amendment, states should be free to design a system that works best to achieve that goal.

Newt answers your questions on ObamaCare:

Newt: "I am completely opposed to the Obamacare mandate on individuals. I fought it for two and half years at the Center for Health Transformation. You can see all the things we did to stop it at HealthTransformation.net. I am for the repeal of Obamacare and I am against any effort to impose a federal mandate on anyone because it is fundamentally wrong and I believe unconstitutional."
You may continue to disagree with what Newt says, that's your right, but your tagline implies that you are willing to change when confronted with facts. Whether you lied purposely, misheard the interview or simply failed to check the facts, everything you are saying about Newt's position on ObamaCare is WRONG. Got IT?

You can bank on this: Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, nor Michelle Bachmann will be the republican nominee. But I would vote for any of them. There are only these important issues: defeat Obama, win the senate, increase house majority. Then go to work putting this country back to what it should be by obliterating federal agencies, Obamacare, federal regulations, firing 50% federal employees, secure borders with armed troops and do away with some federal court districts. Just a beginning. DEFEAT OBAMA.

Excellent! There are many, many disingenuous commentators on FR who are actually masqueraders of conservatism, or anarchists,or libertarians who are so far right they are 360 degrees to the left, or those who would rather see our country destroyed than have a GOP candidate other than the one they want. Have you noticed how much Fox News is pushing for Romney? Romney to be on Chris Wallace for a full hour. Fox has not been fair and balanced for about three years; if they ever were.

To: Jukeman; Hoodat

I do not know that Hoodat is disingenuous or a masquerader. I simply know he stated something as a fact that isn’t. I’m a Glenn Beck subscriber and I listened to him attempt to dissect Mr. Gingrich. He’s no fan of Newt and I take Glenn seriously and listen to his council, however, I have some personal experience with Newt, having met and interviewed him back when he was House Minority Whip. That’s been a long time ago, but I have followed his activities for many years. I do not know whether Hoodat is misinformed, or has an agenda, but I know that Newt fought Obamacare vigorously.

There was a time when defending him on Free Republic was a lost cause, and my attempts to explain the Pelosi ad resulted in my giving up. At the time, Newt’s argument for the ad is that conservatives must maintain a seat at the table or else the liberals would co-opt the issue and make decisions without conservative input, much as they did with Obamacare. I know that Newt is Right more often than he is wrong (left). I know that Newt’s consulting company took funds from Freddie Mac for consultation and I also know that they ignored all of his advice, predictions and pleas to change course. Still, he did the work they paid for, it’s a free market and God bless him for trying to stop the housing bubble he predicted.

I know that as recently as two weeks ago Newt was still being accused of delivering a divorce petition to his dying wife in the hospital back in the 80’s and that was as much as was said. Not one FReeper came to his defense to point out that his “dying wife” is still alive almost 30 years later or that the papers were his response to his then-wife’s petition for divorce. All that aside, Newt has asked forgiveness, he’s admitted that he is human and has made mistakes and he’s even called the Pelosi ad the dumbest thing he’s ever done.

I’m not a Catholic, I’m not a politician but I was divorced by a demon from Hell, so I’m willing to listen because my choices are limited or hopeless. A long time ago I was part of the Republican revolution that Newt helped lead and I saw the House and Senate change hands for the first time in 40 years. I saw a balanced budget and I saw Ronald Reagan fight a holding action against the forces of the left. I remember the contract with America which was Newt’s brainchild and I can’t help but believe he is, was and will continue to be a patriot. Given the choices that face me, I have to go with logic and reasoning and support the only man left that has a chance and isn’t Mitt. I’m not pleased with the choice, but our nation cannot survive another 4 years of Obama. Our government works if it’s allowed too, but the current regime is corrupt and ruling by fiat, executive order and regulation. The Constitution has been thrown under the bus and the economy is being destroyed and is going off the cliff.

Newt Gingrich is the only candidate that has consistently gained ground in every poll since Iowa - coming from 2% to 30+. Every other possible nominee has slipped at one time or another. If the trend continues, Newt will be the choice, and like it or not, the only chance to de-throne Obama. Newt is not McCain, he is not Bush and he is not Reagan, but, if we destroy him with lies and misinformation we face certain failure. I’m willing to take a chance on Newt as things stand today, and I well know things may change in the home stretch. I also know Pelosi and her minions will do all they can to destroy him and frankly, it appears many conservatives are willing to regurgitate the lies. It is plain that there is no savior short of Jesus Christ, and whoever the next president is, he’s going to be hated because there’s no easy solutions. The Republic is in danger, the Constitution is in jeopardy, and all we can do is watch and wait. Prepare for the worst and pray for the best.

As it stands, if Newts fails, it’s Romney or Ron Paul and either would be a certain disaster. Newt is a possible disaster, but he may also be our last best hope. He may not raise the funds to fight Obama’s banked billion and tax-payer funded campaign. Newt may not survive the muck-rakers. He may not be the perfect candidate, but we are past the point of Palin, Christie, Rubio, Ryan, Perry or Cain. Rick and Michelle are underwater. Huntsman is running on the wrong ticket. What is left is what we have to work with, and despite his faults which I am well aware of, I will not sit by and watch lies go unchallenged, whether intentional or simply due to laziness. There’s enough to attack Newt about without lying and saying he supports Obamacare or the Mandate.

If Newt wins the nomination, I will support him, but the stage is already set and there is little I can do but cry out in the wilderness among his detractors. Recently Rush has said flatly that a Republican destroyed Cain. His logic says democrats would have held fire until the nomination. It’s good logic, as far as it goes, but the duplicity of politics says that another false logic may be in play. If Newt gets the nomination, I predict he will be blamed for the Cain dump, after all, only he has gained from Cain’s fall. Mark my words - the play is already afoot and they haven’t begun to savage Newt.

You are entitled to your opinions, but that does not give you the right to misquote, misrepresent and deceive.

My apologies, I got it wrong. I was listening on the radio on the way to work and I had really believed that the quote was current. I made a huge error.

You say you know Newt. He was once my Rep, but I never met him. By knowing him, you are privy to information that I do not have. I hope what you say about him is true, but I cannot reconcile your characterization with what I have seen so far. He was quite clear two weeks ago in saying that he wanted to replace Obamacare with something else. I don't want it replaced. I want it gone.

I see this upcoming election as a remarkable opportunity to put the next Ronald Reagan in the White House. Yet are we really willing to settle for someone who couldn't even hold on to the Speaker job a dozen years ago with his own Party still in power? I am not happy with any of the candidates we have. But I sure as hell am not happy with some retread from the 90s who has never succeeded in an executive office.

Again, my apologies for getting it wrong. As for your other post, I can assure you that I am no troll. I just have a lot of passion and a lot of love for this country. And unless something conservatively radical is done, we will be relegated to standing around talking about how great America used to be as we continue to witness both political Parties selling us out. The lesser of two evils is still evil.

That says it all and then some. Newt can handle all they throw at him. I like Newt and will support him. This will really get nasty but we have to defeat Obama.

>> Newt may be the best political counterpuncher today. >>

I don’t think anyone else is even close to that, and that is soooooooo very important today. That’s why I would consider him over some other candidates who are more closely aligned with me ideologically. And there are a few still left who are.

But when Newt counter punches, it is so effective. And really, what we need are effectiveness on a couple of big issues that all the GOP candidates agree on. That’s what will save, or not save, our nation.

The nuances around the edges aren’t going to be on the President’s plate anyway. Not til we save the Titanic.
