Mrs Hogwallop up and R-U-N-N-O-F-T.

She must have been lookin’ for answers.

Possibly. Good riddance, as far as I’m concerned.
I do miss her cooking, though.

This stew’s awful good.

Think so?
I slaughtered this horse last Tuesday.
I’m afraid she’s startin’ to turn.

Why shouldn’t people be allowed to eat horses if they want to? People eat pig, lobster and all kinds of other critters.

Folks, you're falling into the trap of assuming Obama is thinking like we do. He's a manipulative marxist dictator wannabe.

He's doing this for the exact same reason he's blocking new pipelines and drilling, and forcing mass public transit down our throats....

HE'S DOING THIS BECAUSE A POPULACE THAT CANNOT MOVE, CANNOT REVOLT !

Horses would be very useful in case of Civil War II, don't you think ?

There is no reason to ban horse meat for human consumption. Horses are commodities. If you want to keep a horse as a pet, fine. But don’t limit other people’s freedom.

Congress passed the law, but Obama gets the kudos. Figures!

It’s more likely to happen humanely if it’s done in the states. People were still consuming horse meat, and the abbatoirs were in Canada and Mexico.

Now when you want to cook a winner, it can be 100% domestic.

Yee haa, Trigger to the plate!!
This is a good deal.
There are so many horses running loose and starving.
The drought in TX had horses being sold at sale barns for less than $20.
Prime stock, but could not be kept due to food cost.
The scum let them loose on others property to die of starvation.
There needs to be a market for the overabundance of horse and livestock.
Too many of the feel good girls let their ponies run loose on others land, only to suffer a horrible death.
It’s not Disney land out there, you well intentioned goofballs.
Life gets in the way of free range horses!

Well, I guess this will help Seniors, after all, aren't most (thanks to those eeeeevil, greeeeedy, heartless Republicans) relegated to eating dog food?

As an aside, during WWII, my Grandfather had a meat market here in VT and my Mom told me that as result of beef being scarce, he sold horse meat in his store.

Having spent years living in and traveling throughout the Far East (while serving in the USAF in the 60's, including an 18 month tour in Nam) I have no doubt that I ate all kinds of animals (including dog) that one would not normally have on their menu.

I guess if one does not have access to what we are accustomed to eating and/or one has eaten something we might consider strange, for decades--or centuries--some who live in other countries might consider out reluctance (or disgust) over the thought of eating what they do (and enjoy) as being as strange as we do towards their customs.

To a Republican party with a brain in its head in an economy that is collapsing, this is pure headline gold.

Horsemeat was and still is a delicacy in Europe. Most horsemeat is imported from the USA and is more expensive than other meats.

Some years ago we were given an elderly horse that had been, in its day, a high dollar, high trained animal. Its owner had been injured and was not able to care for the animals so it was put out to pasture with the rest. Due to its age, it was unable to compete and lost a lot of weight.

We had her looking pretty good and one day I walk out to check her only to find her dead.

I would have gladly loaded it and taken to the packing plant if that were an option.

Since the slaughter houses were no longer around, I had 2 options, spend several hundred dollars for an animal disposal company to remove and bury it or drag it to the back of the property and led nature dispose of it.

I guess nature ate well for a few days.

This act will make the horses more valuable and in the long run more horses will be treated humanely. Yes, since the slaughter ban on horses the way horses have been treated has deteriorated significantly. The last ten years I've seen horses mistreated, starved, and treated horribly because there was no bottom to the value of a horse.

For those of you who remember, horse meat was also packed by the USDA back in the 1960's and the poor and aged received the meat for free.

Well, give credit where credit is due: a deregulatory measure coming from the Obama administration! No longer will the nanny-state tell us we can’t eat horse meat. Now we’ll be able to try all those French, Icelandic, Japanese, Korean and Mongolian dishes that call for horse meat without traveling to distant parts of the world. Well, unless the nanny-staters in your particular state get in the way: evidently some states have state laws forbidding the sale, or perhaps even the consumption, of horse meat.

This is horrible as the reliable sources I have read show there is no such thing as humane horse slaughter.
