However, it was Von Braun that led the design team that actually built the A-2, the temperamental A-3, the A-5 (essentially a small-scale A-4) and finally the A-4 rocket that became the V-2 weapon. Goddard's best test rocket was not even as advanced as the Von Braun-design A-2 rocket tested in 1934!

Von Braun came to Texas with his V-2 parts. The army asked him to find and build a suitable rocket test range. He would establish the Roswell/White Sands test range which was in the same location of goddard's test area.

It is unfortunate that it was only after Dr. Goddard's death that his importance has been recognized. Examples of the awards presented posthumously are presently on display in the exhibition area. The highlights of these awards include: The Congressional Medal, 1959; the Langley Medal, 1960; the Daniel Guggenheim Medal, 1964; National Space Hall of Fame award, 1966; the Aviation Hall of Fame. 1966; the Autobiography of Robert H. Goddard and U.S. flag which were flown to the moon on board Apollo 11, America's first lunar landing, July 20, 1969; and the National Inventors Hall of Fame Award, 1979.

Von braun led the charge in this area. He would then be the cofounder of the National space society.

I do not think anyone believes they will find little green men or underground civilizations.

Where there is water there is a chance of life, microbes, single cell creatures. Those have been found in the most hostile to life places on earth so there is no doubt if they find water there will be some sort of life.
