I think it is less about police protection and more about saying that if you take the risk to hang out in that environment, for whatever reason, you might have consequences. Some of the consequences will include that homeless people, those just out of jail, those who are mentally ill, etc. will all become part of the population.
And, believe me, those guys who’ve been released from Rikers’ are NOT New York’s finest citizens. I wonder if DSK was still in town whether he’d join the squatters - lots of girls, you know?

Yes, a few elites will have official documents to prove they are rightful members of the “99%”.

That was my exact statement when the idiots were upset that the money they ‘raised’ for the OWS group turned into a committee that required paperwork and PERMISSION for things that they needed.
The nimwits actually said “What is this, the government” when whining about how the money they raised went to the group and when they turned in requests for items needed, were turned down.
My entire point got a whopping 115 “thumbs down” comment because I said “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”
They did NOT like hearing the reality of life amongst communism. I bet they got it, even while giving me a “thumbs down.”
