Many have forgotten during Ws administration that we had John Walker Lindh aka Johnny Jihad. He took up arms with AQ against the US but he was an American citizen. Many then wanted him fed to the sharks but he had his day in court. But we weren't obligated to transport him back to the US since he was captured overseas. He should have been tried in Afghanistan by a military tribunal and hanged and cremated there so he couldn't defile US soil.

I say start impeachment proceedings and let them vote along party lines.
Let’s see who supports criminal activity and who doesn’t. If they want to play the gray area game, let’em, for every one to see.

Except there would be no vote along party lines over this issue. Few Republicans will vote to impeach Obama for killing an al Qaeda terrorist, regardless if he was an American citizen. Congress authorized the use of force against al Qaeda, this guy was a member of al Qaeda, he was in a foreign country having actively taken up arms against the United States, and he was responsible for training and advising terrorists and planning new terror attacks. Heck, I wouldn't vote to impeach Obama over this. Other stuff, but not this.

George Washington was an amazing man. I read a great book about him “His Excellency:George Washington” by Joseph Ellis...good read, and a slightly different take on Washington.
It has been a while since I read it, but I recall that of the guys arrested, Washington pardoned nearly all but I think two, who went on trial and were acquitted.
Washington saw that trying all of them was only going to piss people off, and he did an intelligent and compassionate thing.
I understand the parallel you draw, and I think the Bonus Army seems to be a better example...good call.

If ever there was a SOB who deserved to be hung, it was that pussy.
When I saw the way that trial went, I realized then that it is impossible to be executed for treason.
Of course, that was on top of Hanoi Jane and John Fkn Kerry...
