I could only guess that DeMint, and a lot of others who speculate about her plans, make such predictions based on money. You have to have a certain amount of cash on hand to mount a relevant campaign, and the money you need to have is based on the amount of time in which you have to spend it to optimum effect. There are probably a lot of people who look at SarahPAC’s balance sheet and income level, and they speculate that she just doesn’t have enough money to pull the trigger on a Presidential run 14 months from decision day. There are no big Republican donors stepping up to bank a Palin run - for some stupid reason those fools are “all in” with Romney. Sarah Palin - on the surface - has no source of, or access to, the kind of multi-millions she’ll need to have for a huge campaign on a national scale. Unless she comes up with her own Soros-type backer, it’s probably correct for DeMint to say she’s effectively out of it. But since she’s made it clear that such backing has questionable ethics, it’s unlikely she’ll accept such a thing.

There are serious consequences to her in this calculus of how’s she’s playing her hand. She’s basically “all in” herself with these high profile appearances she herself decides to keep making. If she does in fact have what she needs in place (money and structure), then she does have the luxury of choosing her time and place to get into the race - which would be terrific. But if the money isn’t there - and she definitely knows if it’s not there - then all of this high profile stuff like the bus tour, the documentary movie she herself requested the director make of her political life, and all the appearances she keeps making whenever a political event is taking place, will backfire on her. If she never enters the race, all of this spotlight stuff she keeps doing will smack of nothing more than narcissism. Keeping her name in the spotlight for it’s own sake. The window is small, and doesn’t stay open long for the non serious contenders. Newt Gingrich is always running for the nomination each and every day he draws a breath. But everyone knows he’ll never be the nominee ever. This doesn’t stop him from pursuing it - for whatever narcissistic reason he keeps doing it. Palin will be affixed with the same label if she perpetually does the “Game On” dance routine only from the sidelines. At some point - and it’s coming very soon - she’s either going to have to definitely get in or definitely get out. If she keeps doing The Mystery Dance too much longer, it hurts her in the worst possible way: there will be enough people who will be turned off by the manipulation, or view such theater as indecisive, and then never take her seriously again. Her core supporters will always be there. But the ones she’ll need to win over to get elected won’t be won over by Palin’s current posturing today for a 2016 or 2020 run. Favorable positioning in The Public Eye has a really short shelf life. Any walkback by her now - after appearances, bus tour, documentary - will only make any future aspiration of public office an even steeper hill to climb. So I have to assume she knows how high the stakes are for her in this Fan Dance she chooses to do.

FYI..National Review has a poll on their homepage...simple question: Who would be the better nominee..Palin or Perry?

Almost 50,000 votes, and Palin leads by a 3:1 margin..

McCain lost it. He and his Dem handlers also muzzled her. And "leaked" half-truth stories. McCain was meant to hand it to Oabma. Palin was never meant to stir the base.

That's what people at the bottom of the polls say.

In 3rd while undeclared is not the bottom of the polls.

Btw, you and I have disagreed on many things but I was astonished to see you ask to be zotted. I am glad you're back. There is NO place like FR.

She has also lost elections.

One, that would be singular.

That's what people at the bottom of the polls say. They're almost always proven wrong.

In this case, she's been right about her chances with her bad polling numbers every time but once.

I knew this would happen. If she did not announce by Labor Day there would be mass stories and editorials written about how she is not running. They forget Ronald Reagan waited until November.

Howlin’s account is still open. She just doesn’t post. Hope she’s okay.

The election she lost she was not the top of the ticket. And elitists ran the campaign and muzzled her. Remember how she got spanked by them, in the press, for calling Rush?

She's has seen the elitists and what they do. THEY pick the winner. We just THINK we do. But they CAN be defeated.

Yup. The press is still trying to control the election. It’s amazing how many buy into it.

“arch-conservative” Sen Jim DeMint backed/backs?
Mitt Romney the RINO.

So, he is on probation regarding his alleged
conservative stripes.

Possible she wasn't zotted?

Maybe the more stealthy “passwording” technique was used?

FReeped polls do not count for anything. Fox News had a poll with similar results. There was a link on DU where everyone was voting "yes, she should run!"

There is nothing scientific whatsoever about an internet poll when all someone has to do is post a link to this poll on their webpage to skew the results.

Thanks! It's great to be back!

And, rest assured, if Palin throws her hat into the ring and earns the Republican nomination, I will support her enthusiastically in the general election.

They forget Ronald Reagan waited until November.

There was no 24 hour news cycle and no internet when Reagan ran in 1980. Reagan jumped in when people started paying attention to the upcoming primaries. Palin has lost a lot of the momentum she was building. People are starting to gel around Perry and Bachmann and are starting to look at Palin's delay and inability to even articulate some kind of message that she is intending to run as a sign of indecisiveness and a sign that she isn't that interested in the job.

I've moved on. Right now Perry seems to me to be the best overall choice. At least he's committed to running and committed to winning. Palin is just committed to keeping everyone in the dark.

Some of you get it.
Some of you don't. Those that don't are applying conventional election politics.
Governor Palin is running-just not by conventional standards.

I was there in Iowa Friday and Saturday.
What many don't get is, she is listening to us. She's not doing focus groups on what she needs to say to appeal to group X or group Y. She goes to these out of the way places to listen to US, without anyone getting in the way. She doesn't have handlers, she goes to these places where and when she wants

Palin says what she believes, it's not some made up buzz word laden stalk to jack up conservatives. Palin is a conservative. And it's not something she's swerved into the last year. By her actions for years she has demonstrated her conservative credentials. But make no mistake- nothing she does is a by accident. Everything she does is strategic. She has studied up. She's like a warrior preparing his weapon for battle......and just waiting for the right time to strike.

I was in that “infamous/celebrated” (take your pick... /g) bug-zapper thread, albeit mostly as an observer.

My recollection is that there were quite a few “zapees” who were reinstated after a cooling-off period. Some, however, may have been too proud to take the peace-offer and declined to re-engage.

As far a a stealth zot, I doubt that’s a policy here. Jim Robinson is not a shrinking violet and when he delivers a zot I don’t think he cares who knows it... /g

Not sure I understand your point. In scientific polls, Perry leads by the same margin.
