Your post was rather rude but I will respond because I refuse to allow baseless name-calling to go unchecked.
I am a single mother. My child’s father left us when she was 18 months old. Because he’s a prominent surgeon, the courts will not allow me to leave the area with his child. I do not have family close by. My parents live over an hour away & I have no siblings. I work full time. If you have a suggestion as to how I could arrange to homeschool my daughter while I work, let’s hear it. Shall I leave her home alone with our family cat??
I believe you owe me an apology.
There is no reason for those books to be on reading lists for kids.
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
No proper outrage is outrageous..
Where are the pitchforks and torches..
But then there’s nobody to blame or a reason to be angry.
I think what casually dressed teachers don’t realize is that the kids’ parents won’t respect them if they are dressed casually.
Nor can the kids. They do have thoughts and impressions.
Hm? Where are the “good” teachers?
My conclusion: There are none. There are merely evil teachers and timid, hypocritical, and sniveling Useful Idiots who collect paychecks and pensions wrongly believing they are sprinkling a little “salt and light” around.
Homeschooling associations have had plenty of experience with all sorts of difficult situations and may be able to give you some workable ideas.
Homeschoolers will tell you that it takes less than one to two hours in formal homeschooling for a young child. You are likely spending that much time already reviewing school homework, textbooks, and reading material, and undoing the damage done by the school each day. And...As they grow older they literally homeschool themselves with merely general supervision from the parent.
You have already been homeschooling your child since she was born. That is what good mothering is. And ...If here dad left you when she was 18 months, it is likely that you worked when she was a pre-schooler. Was she in day care then? If you could afford it then, why not now?
My suggestion: Find a trusted day care provider for her ( you have likely had them in the past) and remove her from government school. Then homeschool in the mornings, evenings, and weekends.
By the way,....I knew one single homeschooling mom who took in a trusted roommate. While her slept she went to work and the roommate ( as part of the rent sharing deal) kept a eye on the child if there was a problem at night.
The one problem I see with your situation is that her dad may object.
We were not trying to create controversy. We were just trying to get students to read, he said.” ( Chuck the superintendent)
Chucky I believe you when you say that you weren't trying to create controversy. You were merely pushing the envelope of decency ...AGAIN! Chucky, you and your Gramscian fellow Useful Idiots have been doing that for more than a century now.
As for the “We were just trying to get the students to read”...Well...Chucky, you nose is growing.
By the way,...Chucky, I'd bet my entire 401K that you are a homosexual. Homos hire homos, and there are a LOT of them in the government schools now.
There are no good government teachers. There are merely evil teachers and Useful Idiots.

Gutsy post, Wintertime...even if you are right.
Idiot parents who lay down with dogs should complain about the fleas...
I do apologize to you. I, too, was a single mother with three daughters 12, 9 and 2. My ex would not pay child support either. Homeschooling wasn’t done in those days (the’60’s) but I was aware of the shortcomings in the schools system even then. I, too, worked full time - sometimes seven days a week as a matter of fact, but I augmented the girl’s education, American history in particular. I was a member of PTA for seventeen years, and my girls were all Camp Fire Girls. The school Social Studies book contained one paragraph about Abraham Lincoln! So if parents read the text books, they could somehow fill in the blanks. Those were the years of the new math, too, (which was only confusing!)so I helped teach them the old method.
Most parents of school aged children were educated in government schools themselves. Today the psychological damage caused to young children by sex ed and homosexual tolerance being taught to kindergartners is utterly outrageous!
If I had it to do today, because the schools are so much worse than they were then, I would figure out some way I could home school them even if it had to be after dinner and on the weekends.
I really do realize how difficult it can be, but your child is worth everything you can do to help her, and of course you want the best for your sweet baby. Good luck to you and to all young mothers today.

You may want to try this. There are excellent, accredited private schools by online/correspondence. Get together with some stay-at-home mothers and have the kids all work off these programs. You could kick in some money to help the stay-at-home mothers. I’ve seen it work here where I live.
I wish all the gays and lesbians would go the hell back into their closets!
This includes some of my nieces and nephews.
They add nothing to their own lives or ours by being “out” and in our faces.
I have really had it with them.
No more tolerance from me!
Even though I have no more “school-age” children, it doesn’t stop me from praying for those who do.
