In Feb. ‘79 I was back in Dallas, due to relocate to Iran the next month. When the Fit Hit the Shan, my friends/co-workers who’d already gone over to live were lucky to get out and flew back into Atlanta with the clothes they were wearing, basically.
I’d made friends with several Iranian engineers I worked with. It was so upsetting - they all came from well-to-do families and suddenly they were out of communication with their parents and siblings. I know a lot of their families were no doubt killed and their businesses burned or confiscated. The guys were terrified at the prospect of having to go back to Iran with the Shah overthrown.
I bet you have some stories to tell. Iran was a wonderful place for Americans when I was there, before everything went to hell. To say I have extreme dislike for Carter would be an understatement and I’ve made it a point to learn as much as I can about Islam, “radical” or otherwise.
I have nothing good to say about Ron Paul as it relates to foreign policy, Israel, Iran, Muslim terrorism or our national security. He and his fanati-bots are dangerous idiots.
“But, if she chooses not to run, then, I will likely support Cain. Either way, not Ron Paul. Although I am a proponent of many of his principles, as stated. Just not all of them. Some of which are unfathomable.”
Sarah’s said on more than one occasion how much she likes and respects Herman. He’s really something, the more you get to know him and listen to him speak at tea parties and elsewhere.
As for Ron Paul, he’s so downright ignorant and dangerous on foreign policy, Israel, Iran, radical Islamic terrorism and our national security, that it’s a very major deal-breaker.
“Even after these training camps were found (which was near the beginning of the invasion) he continued to use the WMD threat.”
I have a couple of thoughts on the WMD issue as well. First, it was documented and filmed that Saddam used chemical weapons on a massive scale to kill hundreds of thousands of his own people (which to me qualify as WMDs - the public seemed to think only nukes were WMDs, but that’s wrong). Second, I totally believe that Saddam indeed had other WMDs - but so much time was wasted by, and because of, the UN that when inspectors FINALLY went in, Hussein had had more than enough notice and opportunity to transport them into Syria and elsewhere. Various kinds of labs were still found, though. DUH.
GW should’ve been more forceful on these arguments you and I have talked about, then maybe he wouldn’t have been so vilified. Before SH was executed, he admitted to his FBI interrogator (who’d won his confidence) that he had plans to rebuild his nuclear program in a big way. Even so, he was already plenty dangerous and the world’s better off without him.
I believe when it comes to terrorism and our national security, history will be much kinder to GW than his attackers on the Left are now.
I think he used the WMD argument with the United Nations.
With the American people (for their support) he used the Al Qaeda / Checks to Palestinian Families of Suicide Bombers argument.
And with other entities he used Saddam's refusal to abide by the cease-fire agreement argument.
Now, from what I remember they did find materials that could be considered WMD and I have no idea why Bush did not use those findings as an example after the fact.
Anyhow, even if there were no Sept 11th, even if there was no terrorist connection we were still justified because of Saddam's breaking the cease-fire and shooting at our aircraft enforcing the No-Fly Zone.
In the end, Bush seemed to have forgotten all the arguments except the WMD argument and somehow the definition of WMD changed to meaning only Nuclear Weapons.
I think there was a breakdown / failure in Bush PR department at some point after the war had started.
It's the same old thing, over and over and over.
Vote for our guy, nothing else matters...If you don't vote for this guy, the bad guy wins...Why, your guy can't win. The party has already chosen, get in step!
Vote for our guy, ya know, the better of two evils, or else your a troll, and or, if you don't vote for our guy, you're voting for Obama.
Seen this all before. Say no wrong about their guy...It's been decided...
W was the direct opposite of thin-skinned BHO. He didn’t care if he got blasted by the MSM/Left. He never felt the need to answer/fight back against attacks in the media when he felt he was doing the right thing. In hindsight, he probably should have, at least sometimes.
By contrast, BHO’s a hyper-sensitive, egotistical narcissist who bristles at the slightest criticism, never missing an opportunity to grab a microphone and counter-attack. Disgusting.
But one of GW’s inner circle, maybe it was Rove in his book, said not long ago that it was probably a mistake that W never fought back, even though they often told him he should, to put it to rest rather than let it snowball and gain such momentum.
Still, as I said earlier, history will be kinder to him.

“It’s Conservatism Stupid! (Or, Why I Won’t EVER Support Ron Paul)”

You’re kidding about wondering where Paul stands on Israel, right?
He dislikes Israel. A lot.

True. It is comforting to me to have a structure to live within that brings both order and peace. Relying solely on the wisdom of humankind is very seldom comforting! MB is a good example for all young ladies to see. Maybe having this issue brought to the forefront might be better for our country then one might initially think! One thing the Obama Trauma has brought to our country is a more thorough conversation on such things as racism, political philosophy, and the constitution. Women’s roles in the highest level of government can now be added to the pile.
We could call this period of time the American Enlightenment! :-)
Are those Cain quotes?
I love his, “we need a leader, not a reader” line.
