There's a lot of misconceptions about what psychiatrist do. Sessions on a couch with them listening is among the biggest one. They don't do that. They see you for 15 minutes every three months and write your refills in most cases. A good LCSW {therapist} specializing in PTSD is the one who helps you work through things. Ironically the psychiatrist I saw who did finally write me the correct medication was also one of the most messed up persons I knew LOL. My family doc writes the meds now.
For PTSD and anxiety a good therapist is a must and it usually takes years to be rid of the beast entirely.

I would have to agree with what you have said. He see the doc every three months and they review meds. I guess the meds work BUT.... it's not the cure. The just knock the edge off.
Then there is the sleeping pill.
