In Kansas they hunt coyotes with greyhounds and hybrids........
Two of the NY counties named in that article do not get lake effect snow or many feet of snow every year. And I doubt that Onondaga (affected by Lake Erie) is anything like Tug Hill Plataeu.
He forgot to thank Coptic Christians, Hindus and vegetarians too.
Yes! I love http://thehighroad.org/
Flintknapper is about 70 or so miles to the SouthEast of me, actually.
East Texas feral pig.
My wife’s folks live out near Ben Wheeler. They have blueberries on their place and a LOT of hogs. You can’t whack ‘em fast enough.
Ah yes, Ben Wheeler is about 20 miles east of me.
They have a nifty ‘Hog-Fest’ every fall.
I lived in Tompkins County for several years...and that’s permanently colored my views of “upstate” and “snow”. ;)
Are you familiar with Corbin Park and surrounding area? I’ve never been to the park itself but spent a lot of time in the area when I was working (power company). Especially over on the Cornish side. When my tree crews were working a line that runs right along the fence they said they saw sows and little pigs but never any big boars.
Tompkins County will give you a colored view of “socialist” too. =)
My father unloaded a whole clip from an M 1 Garand into a boar coming at him in Germany. He said after the first shot it just kept coming. The last shot dropped it less than 10 feet from him. He thought that after fighting his way across Europe he would die from the damned boar..
One of the most dangerous ones! Possibly related to the late Hogzilla!
One of my favorite lines so far:
So, Ive got two different groups to catch without running either group off, a mature boar to try to outwit and a special hog that somehow has to survive all this.
Yee-Haw ..
LOL
Ive been told javalinas taste lousy and stink something terrible.
totally different animal. Much smaller and rarely over a
hundred pounds, they travel in packs.
FN-FAL .308/7.62 Nato with low power scope or red dot sight.
Combined with wing shooting technique you can lay down some serious hurt.
7.62x39 ain’t a bad cartridge for this, equal to a 30-30 & the sks is a reasonably light & fast handling carbine given aftermarket optic sights you got something useful.
I like my SKS all right and you are correct about the sights. The ones on it are horrible. But I probably won’t ever do anything about it because my hunting days are over. I just used it for the first time in years last week to dispatch a woodchuck that the dog had treed.
Enter the DEC (puke)
They can uproot the so-called “wetland” in my backyard ANYTIME! I’ll blame the recently added FILL on them when the DEC Nazis come a-callin’
