The author assumes there are enough Republicans in the senate with guts enough to filibuster in the face of a propaganda barrage from the democrats and MSM. I’m betting there aren’t.

If Beohner loses, Obama wins. This will be spun as (and will actually be) a huge GOP loss and huge gain for Reid and Obama. The bottom line is Obama will get to push it all past the 2012 election. It will take all the pressure off for cuts. Disaster.

Yup. Boehner's bill sucks, but if he loses this vote he is done as Speaker and the Republicans will look like the gang who couldn't shoot straight. The Reid bill will end up passing the Senate as enough frustrated Senate Republicans will get a few concessions and go along, then the modified Reid bill will go to the House and pass because they will no longer need any Tea Party or movement conservatives at all - they'll have Democrats to vote for it.

If Boehner's bill goes down we lose all leverage and will end up getting a far worse bill than the crappy Boehner bill.

Republicans in the Senate and House should have drafted ONE bill, got EVERYONE on board, stuck to it, passed it in the House and declared their job done. Since Reid can't pass anything and the President has no plan, something like Cut, Cap and Balance should have been it. Unfortunately, what's done is done and we can't go back in time and fix this terrible GOP strategy.

My comments were based on the Boehner bill being defeated, either in the House or the Senate. The Reid bill give Obama a large enough debt ceiling increase to get him past the election. That is what this whole showdown is over - Obama is refusing any deal that makes him face this again in an election year, and Reid is backing him up.

Reid proposes his bill in the Senate. John Kyl has already said that the GOP would not filibuster, but they would vote no, allowing to pass with only Dem votes.

I'm confused. Aren't fiscal blls supposed to originate in the House?

John Kyl has already admitted that the Senate GOP would not filibuster. They will vote no and just allow the Dems to pass their plan on a simple majority, rather than risk being blamed for a default.

No, only bills that appropriate money or ones that raise taxes have to start in the House. These bills don't appropriate money, they would ostensibly cut money from existing appropriations.

I love reading both your posts. At this point in time, it's hard to believe there are still those who appear to actually believe the partisan game. And yet, there they are - two peas in a pod.

As long as guys like you exist: (a) this country has -0- chance of survival; and (b) Wall St will continue to rape & pillage with abandon as the ship goes down. That's why I like your posts - I make money everyday betting against the house on the assumption that they represent widely held beliefs.

I, for one, welcome the Reid plan - anything to get the sh!tstorm started. Once the debt ceiling is raised, then commodities are off the moon. It doesn't matter how many programs are funded, or how many checks are cashed from the new Benny FunBux, not when the proceeds buy zilch.

It doesn't matter if the country defaults the 'normal' way, or technically defaults like Weimar a la Benny & the (Ink) Jets, the end result is the same: the free sh!t army is gonna wants its cheese.

I don’t think you understand. I don’t care if the GOP loses. The GOP’s plan is almost a mirror image of Reid’s plan and does NOTHING to save our economy. The “cuts” amount to change found in the street next to the trillions more in debt we rack up. believe me I get it. I get they hav no intention of cutting spending. I get that they lie and try to fool the populace with accounting tricks and then come election say well..if only we had a few more seats...and then we give them more seats...and then they betray us again...and then they announce well if only we had a couple more....WE PLAYED THIS GAME BEFORE!!! Maybe you remember the 1990’s into 2006. Know why they lost in 2006? Because we finally got wise to it. That’s why Republicans weren’t winning jack until the idea of primarying these weasels caught fire. But if those weasels will turn into the enemy after less then 2 years my attitude is to burn it all to the ground.

They either hold to the promises they made or it’s time for a third party and my only involvement with the GOP at that point would be practicing revenge starting at the top with the lead crier threatening conservative members of the caucus. Boehner needs to be rmeoved one way or the other. Either by humiliting defeat or primarying his butt out of existence.

If everything goes to hell in a hand basket there will still be 2 competing ideologies around wanting to pick up the pieces. The populist left will claim they have the answers, and the conservative right will claim we do. Being correct isn't enough. If the proverbial s**t hits the fan, whoever has won the public relations battle will still be standing. Once upon a time I would have told you that naturally we traditional conservatives would be the ones to fix the mess the socialists have gotten us into. Sadly, what passes for the American public these days is overwhelmed with ignorant immigrants, minorities who don't even know what a free market is, and victim groups who will do ANYTHING to avoid being cut off from their freebies. We're at a tipping point, and it just might be too late.

If it were me and not that crybaby Boner, I would shove the CC&B bill down the throats of these POS Dems & Libs and let we the people decide who’s creating the roadblock.

I am so sick of these people I could puke.

Boehner will have to flip at least 1 of those to pass the bill.

I think a couple of holdouts should have a "change of heart" and tell BoneHead that they will vote yes. Then vote no when they cast their vote.

You should work on turning your failed state, California, back from the abyss. It is that type of thought pattern that has caused your state to fail. No thanks. We don’t need a failed country, like your failed state.
