Microstamping is useless without a live and updated registry to record those microstamped numbers and pair them with a firearm and the owner of that firearm.
This is just an end run to justify that registry.
I can’t think of a single elected Republican in NY who is NOT a RINO. I still don’t think this will see the light of day in the state senate. It would be political suicide for any upstate politician.

The legislation exists only to harass gun owners and enrich purveyors of a dubious technology. Similar bills have been rebuffed all over the country.
Now smart criminals will use revolvers and seed the crime scene with spent shells from a gun range.

Exactly. It makes no sense to single out semi-automatic firearms. Even if you did find microstamped shell casings at a crime scene, it doesn't necessarily prove anything. Criminals could also use this technology to plant false evidence.
Don’t even lose one piece of brass at the range, otherwise it could end up at a crime scene. What an asinine idea.
The req will be mandatory in both, it’s just that revolvers do not eject the shells like a semi-auto.
