It tends to be forgotten that Charles, like his father before him, was a serving officer in the Royal Navy, and by all accounts a hrad-working and competent one. He didn't see any action - but that was simply because Britain wasn't involved in any significant conflict during his years of service. (Charles' younger brother Andrew did, of course, fight with distinction in the Falklands a few years later.)
