Really, every few days some jerk rises their ugly head on FR. And that would be you.
Trump is the one that is implying that he ‘knows’ things etc. Generally that’s followed by some evidence and not just rhetoric.

No, I’m saying they should get the same FBI background check that someone working for a bank, security company or anyone working with sensitive info/technology gets. The kind that exposes divided loyalties to other countries and criminal/radical associations.
It is then up to the owners of the company to hire the person.
By your name I assume you are retired Air Force? You had bkg checks for security clearances and such right? That’s what I am saying.

Yes, I am retired and fully aware of what background checks involve, which is why I think it's foolish to even try and apply such standards to the media, especially given the expenses involved and how many federal security-related resources would be tied up by such actions.
Are you going to force the airheads on Fox and Friends to go through background checks, since they are ostensibly reporting the news at times, or at least pretending to?
Are you going to require background checks on a small newspaper whose biggest story of the week is that Edna Mae fell asleep while driving to her 85th birthday party and ran over a few mailboxes and Jimmy Joe Johnson's huntin' dog?
Are you going to require background checks on the 100s of thousands of bloggers and the millions of people who post on forums like Free Republic? After all, they can report on breaking news, and some in Congress want to treat blogs and forums like the media.
Putting aside the logistical, financial, and potential Constitutional problems with your background checks, I'd like to also address the point you made about how these background checks would expose loyalties. I'm going to clue you in on a big secret: These people are hired because of their loyalties or they are hired because of ratings.
Their employers are hiring them because they either have the same worldview or because they bring in ratings, in which case they don't care about loyalties, and an FBI background check is not going to be nearly as important as a check of the ratings.
I also don't think we need FBI background checks to tell us that MSNBC is pushing a very liberal agenda or that the Fox Network is promoting homosexuality among kids with its TV shows or that CNN goes easy on Obama in most of its questions or that there have been favorable stories on CNBC about the Chinese buying up more and more in the US or how great it is that Wal-Mart continues to import more and more from China because it gives poor people the chance to buy cheap crap, while sending American dollars to a communist country.
Oh, and such checks could easily be abused by an administration. Just imagine the Clintons during all of the Lewinsky stuff being able to force Fox News or Drudge's staff to go through heavy background checks, tying up private and federal resources, and being used as an tools of intimidation. Just imagine that since Freepers sometimes beat the MSM to news stories, if they decided FR should be investigated.
You must always look at how such actions could be abused by the other side, because they will be abused. We are much better off if the government were to shrink rather than grow in scope and power under your background checking scheme.
