"Its time a woman became president of the United States of America."
- Sarah Palin
That's right. I read it and I commented on it.
You mean like we as a nation elected a black POTUS because it was time? Wrong Reason. We had a chance for a decent first black POTUS and nobody wanted him because he was a stanch conservative. He was much more knowledgeable than Bob Dole said Bob Dole was. We need a 100% Constitution Rooted Conservative and race nor male or female matters. We also need someone who can stand up and tell the nation destroying RINO’s like McCain in the party to straighten up or get out of the GOP. Sorry Mrs Palin but I don’t think you’re up to the task.
So true! Give the lady who happens to be a female which if she wins the Presidency would be making history as the first woman to be a female President ever... oh and she's a conservative too.
I think there’s also the aspect that people will be looking for the anti-Obama, in particular, someone who is not all that young, untried, unknown. The nation just “tried” that option and it was a disaster.
Obama
Romney
Huckabee
Newt
Hillary
Santorum
Paul
Hunter
Kucinich
Braun
Clark
Kerry
Edwards
Bush
Gore
McCain
Its been said about all of them. Presidential elections are about vetting the right candidate. Not about refraining from asking questions because you wont like the answer.
What is so great about a government surplus? Why should the government have extra money? I think that having a reality show, living your life in the media, things like that are unPresidential. When has a male governor brought up their family? When has one put them on national tv? Palin made her family fair game.
As for male governors being criticized, I believe Mark Sanford was shamed out of running by the media because of his family situation. An he was supposed to be a top tier candidate.
Ok Sac, let’s have a list of all the freepers that are running, we can start with your name at the top.
“Oh yes. Let’s elect a woman to be POTUS simply because “It’s time”. “
That’s not why I will vote for her. But I have not seen anyone who is more qualified than her yet.
If you don't like the forum, you're free to leave.
I find it rather Orwellian to call this speech "personal diplomacy."
She basically announced! Sounds excellent. What a contrast with Obozo.
My favorite: “republicans have the fighting instinct of sheep sometimes.”. Rofl, including all of her competitors!!! She will have them all tripping over their weenies! Screw the press! This could be the election where a majority of Americans dump mainstream media. She is the only one willing to fight the media! Newt et al are still strapping on the kneepads.
You said it!
Again, this is everyone's point who has faulted this for identity politics.
As you yourself admit, she did say "it's time for a woman to be elected." That has only one interpretation: that it's necessary, desirable, or at least okay, to vote for a woman because she's a woman.
And that's identity politics. Which stinks.
Amen to that! It's insulting to see those few Sarah supporters try using her sex to win over the undecided. Frankly, it embarrasses me as someone who at this time is a Palin supporter.
“Oh yes. Let’s elect a woman to be POTUS simply because “It’s time”. “
Do not fall for this headline. That was a throwaway joke in all of the other wonderful things she said. Sheesh, you sillies. She is not playing identity politics at all.
“Remember, It’s up to the candidate to convince the voters.”
I thought that was the media’s role.
I know you are a Palin fan, but this is a fairly useless thread. You do not get any context and you only get part of Palin’s answers. The Right Scoop now has a video of the Q&A and she gave much fuller answers than shown by Gateway pundit.
I’m with you, perhaps Palin has jumped the shark with the women thing.
I’m tired of her.
Doesn't one put “it” on when getting dressed?
Ergo, one gets “it's” on just as one gets “it's” person place or thing on.
I received favorable grades in English for convincing rationalizations excusing grammar flubs.
If she had said that it is time that gender is no longer a factor in determining the President of the United States, then that's correct. But the statement "It's time a woman became President of the United States" is simply not the same. We can give her some slack and make the conclusion that she was indicating her belief that the playing field is leveled, that a woman can just as easily be elected as a man.
But that's not the statement she made. She said "It's time", making it clear that that a woman should in fact be elected now. Such a statement presumes that America should be looking for a woman, and not someone whose principles should be the most important factor.
If a Republican is to win in 2012, they have to win the womens vote. Democrats have controlled it for decades. What she said was that “It’s time”. Men have held the office for over 200 years, so if not now, when? She can’t conceal that she’s a woman, so how is being a member of a class that comprises 51% of the American population some kind of identity politics? That’s the democrat line. She didn’t say to elect anyone just because they are a woman. She was obviously hinting about her aspirations as a qualified candidate.
In 2008 Obama garnered 96% of the black vote and many white votes from people who wanted to see the first black President. In 2012, with Palin as our candidate, we will have the same factor in play to elect the first female President. If we get even 50% of the women’s vote, we win. This is why the dems are so scared of Palin.
I will vote for the best candidate regardless of race or sex and that will be Sarah Palin but if building support among women is needed to elect her, then we need to do it.
