i just dont understand why families with small children would settle into a place in the wild west, unless they had the ability to man a perimeter 24/7...maybe i simply dont undertand the reality of the situation on the ground though...

You have to be a citizen for at least three years before they let you have a gun. Many have been here longer, but never bothered to get. But they’re common enough that it’s no big deal.
