Who gives a rip about 9.0 earthquakes, tsunami or out of control nuclear reactor meltdowns in the USA’s largest trading partner. Its all about the brackets! The brackets! Whooooooooo!

The Situation at [the whole universe] is “effectively out of control”

I had 3 McDoubles for a late lunch.

Sadly there is a much bigger disaster going on in Japan right now for the people. You have elderly women in sub freezing temperatures hunting for Kerosene along with their entire missing families.

Has Jimmy Carter been called in yet to oversee this disaster?

The “US nuclear chair” is being quoted by the AFP news agency as saying there is now “no water at the Fukushima reactor No.4”, and radiation levels are “extremely high”.

LMAO!

What would these catastrophic events be that could happen? Something new or something already envisioned that is already mitigated to less than catastrophic by planning and actions already initiated.

0marxo's hope an change continues to be a catastrophic event --why not mention this?

When there is a major fire here in Southern California they bring in those huge Super Scooper planes from Canada.

Wonder why they can't use them to cool the reactors? The water is right there and they fly higher than helicopters.

I follow Matt Drudge's lead, and take from Matt's new website: The Matt Drudge PANIC Report.

Below is a picture of a star reporter for that website:

This is taken from:

I did not post the picture of the kitty... I just like the graphic.

I think all breaking news threads on the Japanese Reactor situation should have Viking Kitten pictures...

Some folks need to lighten up.

I haven’t read the entire thread but apparently this guy made this announcement at an event last night, not necessarily for publication. The press somehow picked it up and aired it today.

In response, the markets tanked across the board after the press ran it.

Was somebody short the market? Hmm....

It’s not important ...

meanwhile Obama is ready to release his top 4 picks for the NBA

hopefully before they leave for Rio on their trip to see the sights ...

The MSM breathlessly awaits ....

The nuke reactor part of this disaster is starting to remind me of the BP oil spill. So many conflicting reports, stories and versions. Who to believe?

The truth is there somewhere in between....

the lines.

Well hey, the 'experts' on all media, including FOX (Shep & Geraldo - ugh!) - are all in typical over-reaction over the reactors mode. I'm with Red Badger, listen to the guys on the ground there. They seem to think they can make things better soon. 'Panic-mongering' (thanks Moose4) is what we're getting - and I expect we're going to see A LOT MORE!

Wanted to post a bit of sense found elsewhere - relevant to the explosions (hydrogen) and the steam seen coming from the reactors. Here is, from 'Richard Flores':

As a REAL engineer, I am disgusted the the false information that is being provided by the media! The radiation that is coming from the reactors is tritium from the oxidation of the zirconium. (When the zirconium oxidizes, the coolant water is disassociated. The oxygen in the water combines with the zirconium, and the hydrogen is released in gaseous form. Tritium is a low-energy beta emitter NOT dangerous in comparison to gamma or neutron emitters) with an 8-day half life. It decays into helium, which is inert and non-hazardous!!! It easily disperses with roughly a 1/R^3 dispersion rate. (So, the concentration is minuscule at a very short distance!) Given the fact that the release amounts are tiny, there is NO danger to public health off site.

Now, the radiation that is being detected by the Navy is probably from the refinery or other fires, because it appears to be alpha radiation, which could NOT be coming from the reactors. (Alpha radiation typically comes from the decay of TRU elements, which are found in oil and other fossil fuels as well as plastics and other contents of the rubble that were burning!)

If you do the calculation, the potential amount the could reach the USA under worse case conditions is FAR LESS than the dose that you get from drinking a glass of milk!

NOT ONE person was injured from the TMI incident. (Per the Presidential report on TMI, the ONLY danger to public health was the stress caused by "fallacious" (FALSE) news reports!!! Shame on you once again!!!)

That is all true, except for the one reactor there that has plutonium in it. THAT is the one I'm most interested in, and keeping an eye on. But, I fully expect (and fervently hope) to see that they find a way to keep that one cooled down very soon.
