That one off Honshu is almost certainly related. Tonga is more speculative.

Tsunami warning center raises magnitude of Japan quake to 9.1

SE Mom to txhurl
When he came on for his press conference today I simply couldnt bear to listen- I muted it and walked the dog.
As to the loss of life, theres an excellent reporter for CNN whos been making her way up north from Tokyo all night and morning. She said shes been hearing figures of possible deaths that are so mind boggling that she wont report them- couldnt find them credible. Then- as she has gotten further north and has begun talking with more people with family and friends up there, she realizes the numbers may be true. She said they (people living in area) simply didnt believe the water could ever come inland so far.
Remember, the tsunami came inland SIX MILES, with 10- 15 minutes warning at the most ..

Another after shock?
Normally a 6.8 would be big on it’s own, but with the 8.9 earlier today, 6.8 could be an after shock. IMHO

I guess for the folks suffering through these things, the difference between an earthquake and an after shock means little. :-(

...it does make one wonder. It's been real quiet here for a long time.

USA is only quadrant that hasn’t had a “big one” in the past 7 days. but we’ve sure had a lot of smaller ones

This is just the super full moon warm up for Armageddon...last evening I said to my husband that we should expect some major earthquakes over the next 20 days if there is any truth to this superfullmoon theory...this morning when I turned on the TV at breakfast I nearly fell out of my chair.

leap year every four years except every even century years, except every 400 years, got it?...and on days that end in a "y". ;)

Two blondes are sitting on a bench. one says “Which is closer? Florida or the moon?” Other one replies: “The moon, duh. You can’t see Florida from here!”
