While many of us were concerned and not surprised when the crowd turned violent, this particular act did come as a surprise, due to the presence of women and children -— not to mention the security. The rape was *not* acceptable as demonstrated by the interference of the women and the soldiers.
Right is right, no matter where or what culture, else we are stuck with the consequences of relativism and raw utilitarianism.
I, too, have been around FR since its inception and I cannot see the decrease in “sanctimonious posturing”. I do see an intolerance of anyone who strays from the imaginary “true conservative” line and dares to have a contrary opinion on any subject. I see a harshness in responses that was seldom present a decade or more ago. The few who were ended up being banned from FR (remember Escelon?). If we are not careful this could turn into a right wing Daily Kos, filled with vitriol and ugliness.
