The 2012 Texas Republican primary should again attract more voters than the DemocRAT primary due to the deep field in the US senate race.

I've met Ted Cruz; he is and incredible speaker and a very formidable person.

I believe “Cruz” is a “Latino” name. The Dems. would go nuts if another Conservative Latino Republican was elected to high office.

As have I and I completely concur with your assessment.

He would make a FINE U.S. Senator for Texas!

Wow. He sure sounds good.

IF - he pledges to abolish the 14th amendment.... and supports placing the US military on the Mexican
border.... and NEVER votes for any type of amnesty..... and
doesn’t take campaign money from illegal alien employers....
and vows to rid the US of illegal aliens by any means
necessary..... Then he probably could get my vote.

But.... I doubt it.

I believe “Cruz” is a “Latino” name. The Dems. would go nuts if another Conservative Latino Republican was elected to high office.

His father fought with Castro against Bautista in the 1950s but emigrated from Cuba in the early sixties after Castro got in power.

Ted Cruz got his bachelors degree from Princeton and his JD from Harvard. Below is a list of accomplishments as the Texas Solictor General.

Under the leadership of Attorney General Greg Abbott, Ted Cruz repeatedly defended the right to free speech and religious expression, including in a landmark decision protecting the Texas Ten Commandments monument. That U.S. Supreme Court victory set a vitally important precedent for the right to display similar monuments across the nation. In addition, Cruz led the way on several cases that preserved the words “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance and allows students to observe a moment of silence in schools. While Solicitor General, Texas had an unprecedented record defending religious freedom:

Successfully defended the constitutionality of the Texas Ten Commandments monument, winning in a 5-4 landmark decision before the U.S. Supreme Court, setting an important national precedent for the right to display similar monuments;

Authored a U.S. Supreme Court brief for all fifty States successfully defending the Pledge of Allegiance and preserving the words "under God";

Successfully defended the Texas schools' moment of silence law in federal district court;

Successfully defended the Texas pledge of allegiance in federal district court, preserving the words “under God”;

Authored a U.S. Supreme Court amicus brief for several states in support of Joshua Davey in Locke v. Davey, supporting Joshua's constitutional right not to be excluded from state scholarship funds simply because he chose to study theology from a devotional perspective;

Argued before the full U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in Staley v. Harris County, defending the constitutionality of a Houston courthouse monument that contained a Bible donated by the founder of the Star of Hope mission;

Authored an amicus brief on behalf of six states in Barnes-Wallace v. Boy Scouts of America, defending the Boy Scouts and urging the U.S. Court of Appeals for Ninth Circuit to reverse a district court ruling barring them from leasing a public park.

Here is his Bio from his campaign website.

In January 2011, Ted Cruz filed to run for U.S. Senate based on his proven record of fighting for conservative principles and winning on a national level. He is running for the Senate to stand up and fight to defend liberty, preserve the Constitution, and stop federal overreach.

From 2003-08, Ted served as the Solicitor General of Texas, the chief lawyer for the State before the U.S. Supreme Court and all the state and federal appellate courts. Cruz was the youngest Solicitor General in the nation, the longest serving Solicitor General in Texas, and the first Hispanic Solicitor General in Texas.

Ted has authored over 80 U.S. Supreme Court briefs and personally argued 37 oral arguments, including eight before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Under the leadership of Attorney General Greg Abbott, Ted defended Texas values, winning repeatedly on a national level. During Ted’s service as Solicitor General, Texas achieved an unprecedented series of landmark national victories, including successfully defending:

· U.S. sovereignty against the World Court in Medellin v. Texas.

· The Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms;

· The constitutionality of the Texas Ten Commandments monument;

· The constitutionality of the words “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance;

· The constitutionality of Texas Sexually Violent Predator Civil Commitment law; and

· The Texas congressional redistricting plan.

Ted has been described by National Review as “a Republican star rising in Texas,” and as “a great Reaganite hope.”

The National Law Journal called him “a key voice” to whom “the [U.S. Supreme Court] Justices listen.” He was named by American Lawyer magazine as one of the 50 Best Litigators under 45 in America, by the National Law Journal as one of the 50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America, and Texas Lawyer as one of the 25 Greatest Lawyers of the Past Quarter Century.

Ted currently serves as a Partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP in Houston, where he leads the firm’s U.S. Supreme Court and national Appellate Litigation practice. In addition, from 2004-09, he taught U.S. Supreme Court Litigation as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Texas School of Law.

Prior to serving as Solicitor General, Ted served as the Director of the Office of Policy Planning at the Federal Trade Commission, an Associate Deputy Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice, and Domestic Policy Advisor on the 2000 Bush-Cheney campaign. In addition, Ted clerked for Chief Justice William Rehnquist on the U.S. Supreme Court. He is the only Hispanic to have clerked for the Chief Justice of the United States.

Ted has seen first-hand that America’s bedrock principle is the pursuit of freedom and opportunity. His father came to Texas from Cuba penniless at age 18, not speaking a word of English. Cruz went on to study at Princeton where, in college debate, he was named the U.S. National Speaker of the Year and the U.S. National Team of the Year (with his partner). He also won the First Place Speaker award at both the 1992 U.S. National Debating Championship and the 1992 North American Debate Championships.

He graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude and served as a Primary Editor of the Harvard Law Review, an Executive Editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, and a Founding Editor of the Harvard Latino Law Review.

Ted and his wife Heidi live in Houston, where he grew up, with their two-year-old daughter, Caroline, and their newborn daughter Catherine.

I won’t rule him out.

Neither will Jim DeMint.

"Based on media reports following Senator Hutchison's announcement, the Washington establishment appears to be lining up behind Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst (R). However, the two candidates we hear about most from conservatives are Texas Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams (R) and former Solicitor General Ted Cruz (R)," DeMint writes.

Former Solicitor General Ted Cruz is an outstanding candidate, as is Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams, who first declared for the Senate in 2009 when Hutchison announced she would retire before the end of the year (she later reneged on her promise, as RINOs are wont to do). I wish that Cruz and Williams weren’t running for the same office; it’s a shame that one of them has to lose. And I hope that they don’t split the conservative vote and allow some go-along-to-get-along Republican to win the nomination.

It is my fear that Michael Williams and Ted Cruz cancel out each other in the primary which results in the other Williams win. But so far, Michael hasn’t really announced his candidacy, has he?

Michael Williams announced his candidacy in 2009 for the proposed special election, and has never pulled his Senate website, and just yesterday he Tweeted that a major announcement was upcoming. I’d be shocked if he wasn’t running.
