If it took 5000 police, as the article says, to provide cover for this parade, then how many demonstrators were there?

Just checking back on this thread. It sure would be nice to have more info about what happened, without MSM bias. As in, how many other protesters were there. How many pro-homosexual demonstrators, etc. What else happened, what happened first, and so on.

granting that modern liberalism is built on eugenics, eugenics sprang up within years of Origin of Species being published. Eugenics dates to 1865 with “Hereditary Talent and Character” by Galton. So again older then 100 years.

Social Darwinism is a bit trickier to date because some of the ideas pre-date Origin of Species; however I think it fair to say that Progress: Its Law and Cause (1857) by Spencer is a good place as any; again older then 100 years.

and of course Darwin, Galton and Spencer were strongly influenced by Malthus’ An Essay on the Principle of Population from 1798.

Do you understand the difference between philosophical or political THEORY and what happens when this theory is enacted? It is often impossible to pinpoint when a theory was first formulated, but we can usually be pretty accurate in determining when the theory was first actualized. That is all that has been done here.

If you really want to start looking at where ideas come from, I would contend that much of leftist liberalism may very well be the result of evil people deciding that the abominations suggested in works of satire were actually good ideas.

There has always been some debate as to whether Thomas More's Utopia was satirical or not. My contention is that it is impossible for it NOT to have been satirical. Because, if More really did believe in the society he described, it would mean that he was ultimately executed for things that he did not actually believe. Additionally, if English society at the time did not believe that it was satire, More would NEVER have been given positions of ever-increasing authority. So, I think it's reasonable to conclude that Utopia was one of the first works of satire. Nevertheless, some obviously didn't take it as satire because it contains the basis for all leftist principles.

Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal is considered on of the best, if not the best, satirical works ever written. Yet the left has spent the past century practically using it as a "how to" guide. People like Malthus, Galton and Sanger would NEVER admit that they were influenced by A Modest Proposal, but what they suggested and what was ultimately carried out is pretty much what Swift described.

It was indeed satire. The title alone should be enough if one is familiar with More.

This is just more evidence that the liberal left are witless gulls ;-)

Which would be amusing if it wasn't for the fact that their lack of intelligence wasn't accompanied by a desire to kill the innocent.

Nonsense. Prior to the 20th century, ALL Christian churches (Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox) taught Creation, denounced premarital sex, condemned contraception, abortion, homosexuality and divorce. What would be called "fundamentalism" today was the NORM in EVERY Christian church two centuries ago.

Your comments are excellent, please add my name to your small ping list!

there is a difference between when a position is first formulated (the theory) and when it is first realized or enacted; however as theory is a necessary condition for a ideology to be enacted, I think it best to date ideological system to when they were first robustly formulated.

I’m aware of Sanger’s comments; they are not even close to the first expressions of such sentiments.

1) Theory is needed for action, therefore the birth of left liberalism (and all ideologues) should be seen as when the theory was birthed in a robust form.

2) Marx was extremely critical of liberalism and the thinkers that have refined the liberal ideology; it’s very reductionist to label him as a “liberal”

3) in response to my flippant comment about fundamentalism, first it is false that all Christian churches preached the core tenants of fundamentalism (Creation, Divinity of Christ, sola scripture, etc.) 200 years ago. Off the top of my head, I can think of three Christian theological movements that pre-date the 20th century that reject some (or all) major aspect of fundamentalist theology; namely the Unitarian, the Universalist and Society of Friends (Quakers) movements. Setting this aside, my larger point was the questions of if the Bible should be read literally, or if Creation account was history, only makes sense if there are options. Prior to the advent of theological liberalism such questions did not exist because there were no “options” available. It is, therefore, silly to insist that for 2000 years biblical literalism and fundamentalism were the norm; They weren’t because such concepts only came into existence as a reaction to Modernism. It doesn’t make sense to say people held a positive belief that the Creation was history if any other thought wasn’t possible.

(and the the Anglican Church came into existence to allow for divorce)

4) No I don’t support the homosexual “agenda.” Through to be fair, there are aspects of my political beliefs that extend to supporting “gay” rights; i.e. I have no problem with gays and lesbians exercising their freedom of assembly to have pride parades or hook-up. But bad arguments are bad arguments.
